Short intro abt myself. I am from Singapore, where JW is banned by the govt since 1972 because of theor refusal to undergo military training which is mandatory for all male citizens upon reaching the age of 18.
The Jw still have a pretty active underground network here and a year ago, they came knocking on my door and thats when I started ona weekly bible study session with them till about 3 mths ago when I decided it's not going anywhere hence I told them to stop coming.
They are pretty okay and nice people. But I don't agree to several of their teachings and doctrines but whenever I tried to present to them what I think of certain issues, they will inadvertedly go one big circle and at the end still insist that they have the truth and hold the correct view.
The way they try to steer me towards their ideals and belief using the Knowledge handbook is not what I consider proper Bible study. They read stuff from their Knowledge handbook and cross reference selected verses from the Bible to support what's being said. There's a lot of verses taken out of context and I had spend many hours trying to expound those verses with them by reading the WHOLE chapter instead but it usualy ended up nowhere.
Hence, I find that it's a complete waste of time trying to discuss the Bible with them and I am better off just reading the Bible on myself and meditating upon it and seek divine guidance myself.
I think they had been totally indoctrinated into the Watchtower's system and their mind refuse to accept anything thats outside what's been fed to them.
I am always skeptical when people tell me that they found the truth and write all other denominations off as twisted teachings. I dont thing anyone has yet found the truth, the absolute truth except for those that had departed us and perhaps, maybe, they finally know the truth when they perished from this world.............

Don't worry about that, its almost impossible to sift throught this website. Unless you enjoy looking through 1000s of posts.

That's how they, and pretty much people that can't really back up their stuff with observable evidence, argue and get new recruits. Many people get bewildered by all the material they got. Sheesh I wish I had that many pamflets on my beliefs. So they give in, talk about how bad the world is taking down their defenses then feeding them the watchtower stuff. Sorry to sound depressing but it's like that. You're a smart individual. The real world could use people like you lol.
