Not just in terms of voice, but impact; Tori Amos, Joni Mitchell, Indigo Girls, Eva Cassidy, off the top of my head...

At the moment 'Rites of Passage' by the Indigo Girls is a fave. 'Galileo', 'Ghost' and 'Love Will Come To You' are just fantastic songs, beautifully performed, lyrically interesting, satisfying, emotional. The first two mentioned are examples of songs with 'spooky chord sequences'; the very chords and changes evoke emotion. I've not bothered changing the CD in my car for a week, as I'd not listened to the album for ages...

    Purplesofa,

John Mayer - adorable boy next door with those big puppy dog eyes and soulful voice. And his fingers on that guitar. *sigh* He's actually a very underrated guitarist.

I agree, I saw him in concert last summer. His guitar playing is awesome. He is so different live. Why Georgia....mmmmmm....... He said he wanted to be a great guitar player but did not think he would be a Stevie Ray Vaughan, so he did the singing to also get to guitar play.

I did see him last year - my sweet hubby bought me tickets for my birthday. I said, "Why are you doing this? You realize this is the only competition you'll ever have." LOL But he is amazing live. I lost my voice singing to almost every song he played. I felt like a school girl.

"Why Georgia" is one of my faves! But the one that always makes me cry is "Daughters". Hits close to home for me.

Also...love Indigo Girls, Patty Griffin, Beck, and Placebo.

SixofNine - who did you say I would like if I like Patty Griffin?
