I have a
longlittle antique story I can share....About 10 years ago, I was a single mom for a brief time and had very little money .My big excitement was to get up on a Saturday morning and go garage sale hunting. This particular Saturday I slept in, so I was pi$$ed that I had missed the local church bazaar....It was going on till 1:00 in the afternoon but I knew all the good stuff would be gone...I headed up there anyway?s to maybe catch a homemade pie and a hotdog for the kids lunch...
Once I got there, they were packing up...They were basicly packing the stuff up to send to local charity...My son(only 5 at the time) spotted a box of toys that he wanted...I was not giving in to him as we did not need anymore toys...
The fella that was packing the box up said, "come on mom, give me a buck and you can have the hole box" At any other time I would have said no way but there was a shaped ball in it and it had all the pieces with it..( Remember the blue and red tupperware balls with the odd shapes in it??) Well, I had been looking for one of those balls for the kids because it was the only thing I had as a child that I enjoyed....I also still had mine from being a child but, it was missing pieces....
Once I got the box home, I decided to go through it before the boys got it because I had seen some plastic play guns in it and I did not want them have any guns....As I went through the box I came across this plastic bag at the bottom of the box...I unraveled the bag and these two long neck REAL guns fall out of the bag....At this point I am in awwww...I did not know what to think...I wrapped them up very quickly and put them back in the bag...I took them over to my mom and dads place for my dad to look at them and he said I had a gold mine...Keep in mind, that at that time I did not have much money at all....My dad ended up taking them to a dealer and we found out that they were wroth over 900.00 a bucks a piece.. That is what the dealer offered us right on the spot, so I knew they must have been worth a lot more....
I ended up taking them back to the local church to find the rightful owner as I knew they were worth big bucks....it turned out that they had belonged to a lady that passed many years ago with no surviving relatives and her stuff just got donated to the church.....The church took them back from me and thanked me for handing them back in...they were sold for a couple of thousand dollars I was told and the money went back into the church....
The church ended up sending me a gift certificate for 400.00 hundred dollars( Walmart) and also told me I was entitled to "Free" daycare for a month if I needed some "me" time and they also wanted me badly to come to their church....I thanked them but declined there church service as religion had already left a bitter taste in my mouth...
Anyway?s that is my little gold mine story...it does pay off to hit up those garage sales at the end of the day.....

OFC! What an interesting find. have you been reading in it at all? I'm sure it will be interesting to see what they were talking about back then, (probably the end of the world coming right up in 1914). Please let us know when you read it and what your opinion is.
