Happy Guy: You hit the nail on the head in regards to maternal instincts.
rebel8: I was born sick. I am fine now but my parents refused blood transfusions for me as well. I too wondered how my parents could refuse to save my life as well for the WT. I especially wonder about my mom because she wasn't even baptized at the time of my birth. She didn't get baptized until 4 or five years after I was born.
My father at the time was new in the "truth" and I am sure was trying to do the right thing in the eyes of Jehovah.
I am number five in a line up of six children. We didn't have much money but my father was providing for his family.
My mom was very sick while pregnant with me. I was born almost two months early. The doctors said I needed blood and my father fought it in court but thankfully lost. I was a ward of the court for the first year and a half of my life.
I had the transfusions and for years my parents felt guilty that I was transfused.
But like you rebel, I still wonder how obedience to the org comes before love of a child.
I was soooo sick and everyone thought I was going to die even with the blood tansfusions.
I had surgery last year and my surgeon was reading my medical records from way back then and said to me "you are so strong. This surgery is going to be a piece of cake for you. Do you realize adults would have had a hard time surving what you went through?"
Well, Now that I am older and a little wiser I think back and can see that there are probaly many reasons for my mother not fighting to save my life.
1. She was very sick herself when I was born
2. Fear of the WTS (not sure of the degree of fear she felt if any)
3. Too many other children she and my father could barely afford.
4. As Happy Guy pointed out selfishness.
But looking back on my life thus far I have complaints about my mother as well as praise for the love she showed her children including me.
Any parents out there who refused blood for their kids?
