Sadly, no excuse worked for me (tried 'em all), except when I had chicken pox ... but then at 18, i just moved out.

Develop an allergy to environmental scents, cleaning products, rug shampoo, perfume.
The last few years before I left the org this problem was rampant in our circuit!Makes you wonder........
That is too funny. Same happened in the KH over here. So many people became allergic to scents that nobody was/is allowed to use them anymore, no perfume, and not even hand lotion. I remember putting hand lotion on once on my way to the KH (totally out of habit, I wasn't thinking). They smelled 'something' on me, and I had to sit in the back of the hall during that meeting.

Creating an excuse to miss a meeting was easy - physical pain, an ailment or injury was the most common and never questioned. It was the reasons for staying home that would vary. I must say I love not having to get ready for the meetings or setting up the house for the bookstudy - what a drag it was all those years. Now I play netball on meeting nights and love it.

Work - but "gulp" you aren't going to believe this. Back when, I would give the overtime money earned at work on a meeting night to the congregation. I did stop as we needed the money too badly.
I'm an idiot

when I was a kid, I used to hide my meeting shoes or my meeting clothes. We didn't have very much money, so I only usually had one pair of shoes fit for the hall or just a few dresses. I was so naughty...I didn't do it very often though...I felt guilty after, and by the time I was 12 was into the meetings...until about half way through my sophmore year...then I had too much homework, or had to work, etc.

I used the excuse that my wisdom tooth was growing in and I was in terrible pain.
Come to think about it, I must have about ten wisdom teeth, I used that excuse so much.
