It's in my bible. Right after the book of Enoch. It's the "Musings of Evil".

I know an elder who had heart failure while driving his car. The car crashed and rolled over, and he died. (True story.)

It would be wise for Christians to consider selling their cars and giving the money to the Watchtower Society.

Later, it was discussed that maybe his almost dying was a sign of me being evil...because I stopped attending meetings a few weeks later and was disfellowshipped a few months after that.

    ND:

Please tell me that you are exaggerating! I do hope that NO ONE EVER told a young person such a HATEFUL thing!

Last summer, a jw friend had a graduation party for her son, who would be going into kindergarten in the fall. It was just like a birthday party with the games they played, food we ate, and the big spiderman sheet cake for him at the end. Afterwards I wondered, "are they going to do this for him every year to try and make up for not having birthday parties?" It just seemed dumb. Give him a party for turning 5 instead!!! Later on, I felt bad for him and became much more lenient on the birthday issue.

I don't know if they still do this or not, but some JWs used to have Present's Day. They just picked a day to give presents to their kids. Of interest, these days typically came a few days after Christmas and Birthdays. :)

    Do JWs still do this?

IMO this is all about wanting money and presents. I can't remember how many shower invitations, tupperware party invitations I received. After a while I declined almost all of them. Yes, it is about the almighty dollar.

After the act of baptism, our joy does not require a victory parade, a bouquet of flowers, or a party honoring the one baptized.

I had the privledge of seeing a church baptism one on of my few church visits. The pastor announced to the congregation afterwards not to forget the BBQ held at soandso's house afterwards in celebration of this momentous day. I thought, "How loving and how welcoming".

I have also attended many JW graduation parties. Elders children and all. There was a huge dance, big dinner, and always lots of presents given. I never thought before that it does go against the principle of "not honoring one person". The kids loved it and I for one am thankful that it is allowed.
