I remember my JW sister graduated in 1976--Bicentennial year. Her tassle was red, white and blue--so she took one of the colors out so it wouldn't look so patriotic. How dumb!
No birthday celebrations allowed, but graduation party is OK?

Sorry for the delayed reply, the graduation is from high school, not from college. However, the graduate in question is considering some form of "higher" education, as he realizes that his career prospects are limited. His parents are actually being supportive of this line of thinking.
