I stopped looking for a religion to belong to but I listen to people of any and all faiths and take what I want from what they say. Common sense goes a long way in deciding what to keep and what to throw out. The dubs pretty much ruined organized religion for me. I see it all as dedicating oneself to man, be it a group like the GB or an individual like the Pope. I hope there's an afterlife ... we'll all find out one day for sure Therefore, I belive in life, I belive in death and I believe in God. The first two are a matter of fact, the latter a matter of faith.

My journey has lead me to the threashold of Buddhism. I've explored Amerindian spiritualities, Wicca, other New Age areas. Most of this has pointed me in this direction. Buddhism is a phylosophy more than a religion. A life practice.

Because I was baptized in the "Name of Jehovah (the Father)" dunk "The name of Jesus (the Son)" dunk "And in the Holy Spirit" dunk, and because in my self explorations I have come to believe in The Christ (in all of his incarnations), I also consider myself Christian. However it has taken me 34 years since my baptism to fully understand what that means. Christianity is no more a worship, as it is a phylosophy and a way of life, as exampled by Jesus. Jesus did not preach/teach from a temple, a church, or a Kingdom Hall; he taught in the open.

I believe Jesus came to redeem us from the sins the Jews/Hebrews created to control their masses. He came to relieve us of the 10 commandments. Of the heavy tole Judaism placed on it's people. He also came to open up "salvation" or the concept of salvation, The teachings of Peace and oneness with "the Father", to anyone who wanted it, Jew or Gentile. To simplify life's morality with his 3 commandments "Love God (and by extension all of His 'creation'), Love your neighbor, as you Love yourself. Simple, but not easy.

When will I get off my butt and get myself to a Buddhist teacher? I dunno. When my butt has the necessary motivation.

Hugs and love to you FF on your journey. I believe you will be amazed at what you find and what you learn and what you can encompass, if you allow yourself to get beyond all of the "should's" and "don'ts" we've been indoctrinated with.

I guess that I'm more agnostic than anything right now (maybe that's the word for it...I don't know), though that can change. I have trouble believing in "hell" or any other kind of "destruction".

I guess I tend to believe in a "salad" of different beliefs. I take what I believe and then toss the other teachings that I don't believe out the window. I can't agree with the Christians on some of their beliefs, I can't believe that this all came about by evolution either. Now I can believe that, for some reason that God/Goddess or what have you, started the creation and then evolution took over. I'm still searching on that.

I have trouble with the bible being "the word of God" because many parts in there just seem to "story" like or fables. Maybe some of it's true, but then which parts?

I'm very opened minded and don't mind others viewpoints. As long as I'm "allowed" to challenge them if I believe differently.

PS FF you asked about an afterlife. I believe in a continuing life. That the soul is not the body; the body only being a container while we are here on our earthwalk. I have come to believe, through experience, that I have been here on earth many times. I have memories of 3 specific lives but I know I've had more, and other's who have told me I was involved with them in one or more of their past lives.

I didn't think Buddhism believed in the Jesus story...am I wrong?

I have trouble believing in the Jesus story because there are other stories that predate Jesus that had a similar jist..with a "virgin Mary" of some sort, and a "messianic savior" that also died for our sins. And even some non-christians have a similar story. Am I wrong?

Re: What "religion" type do you follow?

I follow myself and my family. If their is a God/Goddess/Being then it should understand that.

Giving birth to my children was a very spiritual experience. It was like the room was breathing and everything had a pulse. I really "enjoyed" my son's birth. It was quicker than my daughters, but also because Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata was playing on my tape recorder at the exact moment of him being born. That's a religious experience!
