    Why 5 meetings a week?

All the better to brainwash you with, my dear.

Actually, most JWs only go 3 times a week (3 days) but 5 meetings, 2 on a weeknight, 2 on a Sunday.

I will agree that it is mental conditioning. That is why they are spread out like they are. One is kept small supposedly to give the elder time to help but more to keep an eye on you; they hope thie elder will more likely notice you aren't at the meetings. Good idea; doesn't work in reality.

I don't think it is the number of meetings, hours spent, etc., but that they are not interesting or refreshing. People spend more time each week watching TV because they choose the info, the time (thanks to VCRs), and the amount. They are informed and entertained; 2 words that don't apply to JW meetings, which are indoctrination sessions.

People who dislike the d2d, definietely don't like the TMS or SM. Why go to a class on car repair if you don't own a car, or don't have a garage, or can't afford the tools? I have had people tell me they like talking to new people on JWD about their beliefs or answering their questions. Different venue? Actually "find someone home"? Actually believe their info can help?

With work 5 days a week, why does anyone want to get early on both Saturday and Sunday? I know of some JW congregations where the elders had all the book studies meet on Saturday and rotated the elder conducting so the elders did not have to go out every Satruday...!!!!

So to conclude, I don't think it's the 5 hours a week or 3 days a week that grate. It is the borning, mind-numbing material that has no practical value in day to day life.

Five meetings a weak is ESSENTIAL for them to keep control of your mind.

The minute you start to miss meetings their control on you starts to slip.

Then you gradually start to wake up from the nightmare that is being a JW.

Exactly. 5 meetings a week will have a person so busy that they can't possibly research the material to see if it is truth or a lie.

The GB claims that if you miss a meeting you are an easy target for Satan da debil. You have to grab hold of the meetings like a drowning man grabs hold of a lifeline. The WTBTS has mind control and fear down to a perfect science. It is hard for a JW who attends all the meetings, goes out in Service and maintains a household to get free from the control.

Here is why I think they don't have more evening meetings: attendance would be abysmal. In fact it already is.

So what do they do instead? They tell you to prepare for each of the meetings you do go to. So you have Monday night preparing for Tuesday night. You have Weds. night preparing for Thursday night. You have Friday night preparing for Saturday service. You have Saturday night preparing for WT Study.

If you actually follow the advice (bombardment of Fear Obligation and Guilt) you will have very little time to do anything else. Exactly what they want. It appears to me that most of the dubs are doing those things but in a most basic manner. They don't study their WT like they used to, they preparing in 15-20 minutes. The old timers would take an hour or more. Same for the rest of the preparation.

Perhaps ljw is right. A change could be coming. They changed the school two years ago(?) and that hasn't really panned out. Attendance is still low. Perhaps they'll move the Bookstudy into the service meeting as a 20 minute weekly Q&A part. Then have each bookstudy group meet separately for service on Saturday (some halls do this already) so the bookstudy overseer can still watch over every one.

This would eliminate one meeting night and still cover the information.

The Dubs love to exaggerate their good points and minimize their not so good points...

The whole 5 meetings a week just SOUNDS impressive... it's only 3 meeting with intermissions.

I love how they NEVER use or relate to the scripture where JC said "whenever 2 or more of you are gathered in my name...."

When was the last time a Dub meeting was declared to be in Jesus name?

I said what if there were 20 meetings a week.

If they thought they could get away with having 20 meetings a week they'd do it in a heartbeat.

Anything to maintain the mind control, and to keep the lowly publishers in step with Jehovers chariotlike organization.

    More meetings = More brainwashing

It has to be about control. They must be afraid if you are away from them for a period of more than 48 hours you are either going to forget or turn away. Somebody must have figured this out a long time ago, hence all the meetings!

I can tell you this, the elders would not be in favor of 20 meetings; nor would I think the CO would be. The WTS phased out the extra meeting at the KH during his visit a few years ago. I can't see the Bethelites and the GB going to 20 meetings a week. Any CO/DO/elder who says different is full of hot air. They complain enough now about the time it takes.
