Maybe it bothers you because it's a greeting, said with no personal meaning that you, elsewhere, be blessed. She is just mouthing it to everyone.

I know I don't like it when someone says "Hi, how are you?" as a greeting, and they really don't care how I am doing. Go ahead, test it out. See how many people are ready to listen if you do not reply with the standard "Fine, thank you". Try telling them how you really feel, good or bad, and see their reaction.

It seems to me that people who do this are "show boating" their religion... basically blowing a horn and saying: "Look at me! I'm a Christian!!!

That's how it comes across to me too...

I think it's one example of the "code" talk that evangelicals use to identify each other. So if you respond with a nod and a big smile and say "oh thank you, you have a blessed day too" they know you're also in The Truth.

Okay, I can already tell you I'm going to piss someone off with my comment, but here goes...

What annoys me is that so many people are so freakin' eager to take offense to someone wishing them well. And that's all that girl was probably doing. Is she only allowed to say "Have a blessed day" to fellow Christians? If you're Jewish and say "Shalom", are you only allowed to do that to fellow Jews? Is it okay for me to take offense because I'm NOT Jewish? (I can already see it: How dare you say "Shalom" to me! Can't you tell with my last name of Smith that I'm not Jewish? You'd better say "Have a nice day" next time I come visit your store or I'm taking my business elsewhere!) This is about as ridiculous as ME demanding that YOU tell me "Have a blessed day" because I am a Christian.

    Gimme a break people!

When you think about it, every action you take is a choice. You are basically CHOOSING to be offended over it. There are so many other things to expend your energy on rather than CHOOSE to be offended by something so little. How hard would it be to say, "Thanks, I am having a great day!" I can guarantee she'll look at you, smile, and be happy for you.

Since you can read minds when someone says, "Have a blessed day" what am I thinking about your bitchin' N moanin' that someone was nice to you?

Aye don't gave a righteous shate boot some lass wishing me to 'av a bless sed day one wey or ta other. Aye wood tink that anywoon who'd get their knickers in a wad over 'tat needs a few whiskeys to kill a big bug up their arse.

(forgive me. I've been editing a Scotsman's deposition all day who works at British Energy and it's been a bugger.)

Agree with Billygoat that it's just a gosh durn greeting...but on the other hand I don't think I would be able to resist responding with something like, "I'll try to evolve a little, thanks!"
