Did Jesus tell a fib?

Perhaps what is happening here is what happens in other similar threads.

We are presented along the way with what is supposedly the Creator of this infinite universe; the most high, most loving, most powerful, most knowing and understanding, etc., etc.

But the reported actions within the Bible and those we don't see today don't add up to anything close to a most high. Instead they reflect a small entity restricted to space and time, and how much he can give. Exactly like a human. Which is not surprising of something made in our image.

The real confusion arises when it can be seen that many have love and compassion less-conditional and more pure than the love of the interpretation of god they worship. Of course they refuse to see this in themselves, for it would be sacrilegious to reveal oneself greater than ones god.

I'm not saying there is no Source to this wondrous universe, but rather that we may too easily accept a very diminutive idea of it.

So.....if you hadn't known Jesus.......you would have no fellow feeling for others eh? Why?

    Gumby,

You've got a lot of passion and vigor, and this impresses me. And I understand, but do not necessarily agree, with a lot of the things you are saying. Keep in mind however, that Jesus did not come among us 2000+ years ago to change the world. He eventually ended up doing so and 1.5 billions Christians in world today attest to that. He could have come into the world 2000 years ago and just took over. He could have told everyone he was God, but in a man's disguise, and everyone better do what he said, or else. He didn't as we all know. He came and live a poor as he could (as Ghandi, MLK, Mother Theresa, and others did). He did not force anyone to believe what he taught, nor does he now. You either believe, or you don't believe. We all have free wills to accept or reject his teachings; it's up to you. Brainwashing has nothing to do with it. There are those more devoted than others; believe with more intensity than others, but brainwashing, no, I don't think so. Brainwashing is what happens to those under the control of the WTS (how to dress, which way to have sex, beard or no beard, etc., etc.)

I guess the point I'm trying to get across that we all have free wills. We believe in what we want to believe in, or don't want to believe in. You apparently believe Jesus was some insignificant idealog, one of many back in his time by the way, and you may be right. Have you been brainwashed to believe in this way, or are you using your free will to mold and form you beliefs? Some of us believe that he is something more than just insignificant, and that some, or all, of his thoughts and ideas have meaning and structure.

Just my thoughts. Have a nice day.

Uh.....didn't Jesus himself say that 'unless you eat his flesh and drink his blood YOU HAVE NO LIFE IN YOUSELF'? Did't he say the only way to the father...WAS THROUGH HIM? In other words....didn't he honestly teach (as well as his diciples), that those not IN HIM would basically be toast...you know.......end up in Hades, would'nt have eternal life, be on the road to destruction. If people didn't listen to his message and believe it, they were the goats he said that would perish. Why do you say he didn't force anyone? Do you think maybe "threatening" is a better choice of a word?

I suppose "brainwashing" could mean being decieved into believing a lie and living your life according to that lie.

I don't know whether a good man named Jesus who taught love actually existed as the bible claims. However....I have strong reason NOT to believe he was/is a godman that is mankinds true savior. If christians would re-search the fact that Jesus credentials were found in OTHER godmen BEFORE his day......and notice the identical similarities Jesus had, then their COMMON SENSE would testify to them Jesus was just another Myth that was made into a religion that proved succesful. This...along with a shitload of other evidence would convince anyone who didn't let THEIR EMOTIONS stand in that path to perhaps see things differently.

I will say one thing for christianity......it has shaped many lives for the better ( not always)... and given people a hope that keeps a smile on their face along with a feeling of security.....and that's a good thing.

None of them that I know of ever had power over rattlesnakes or scorpions to the extent these critters never bit them.........so.......did Jesus lie that they would be immune to deadly critters, and that they wouldn't ever be harmed,.....or did god ALLOW a spurious scripture in his spirit directed holy word that could have caused the death of many if they trusted this scripture?

Knowing from my experience in dating men...they like to exaggerate...REALLY EXAGGERATE...and this case is no exception as is the case with many other instances in the Bible.

    "I bedded 800 WOMENZ!"........Sure ya did Solomon

"I built an ark...THIS...BIG!!!!".... Sure ya did Noah

"I got eaten by a fish...THIS LONG!!!!!!!" .... Sure ya did Jonah

Men, imperfect men with hopes, fears, a desire to impress, so on and so forth... wrote the stuff about Jesus and themselves....I rest my case

JamesThomas.....as long as the bible god is the god one subscribes to......you will have what you described in your post.

So Preston.....you think Solomon actually stretched his story from say 6 women to 1000? That's a bit of a stretch wouldn't ya say?

Noah wasn't stretching his story either or he wouldn't have included every species went onboard with details.

If Jonah was swallowed, I'd say the fish was good sized.

Me thinks yer waaaaaaaaay wrong. Besides ya big knucklehead......god guided these men by Holy Spirit to write these stories and the Holy Spirit don't stretch stories...........so there!

    Gumby,

This statement, to my mind, sounds like what you would "believe" if you were fighting the god that the WBTS has brainwashed you into fearing/hating. What do you think?

Go tell all the starving suffering people in this world that god has their best intrest in mind. That's like someone knocking your teeth out so you can have new and better lookin teeth.........ya damn hillbilly bastard!

First, not all the starving suffering people are God's babes

Second, the ones that are, know that he does have their best interest at heart. That's why Jesus came, to die for His babes, so that when they die of what ever cause, there souls would not be harmed.
