HL and I have both made out wills leaving everything to each other and to our kids if we both pop our cloggs together.

But....what about those of us who have elderley dub parents? Betcha once they go the dubs will be swarming around to keep stuff from those evil 'postate children..

Actually Dansk you've just got me thinking and getting a little cross here.

I've had several JW relatives die, before I exited dub land. Of course they left money to their children naturally enough, but I've just remembered my relations showing me the 'lovely letters' of thanks from the WTBTS for the large donations sent to them.

I got nothing, even though I moved heaven and earth to help them always and be there for them. I had never even thought about this before. They loved the WTBTS more than me. Or was it something else. Were they buying an assured place into the 'new system?'

    You've got me wondering!

    YEOWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Thanks for this topic Ian. You just reminded me that I need to update my will. I had it done about 6 years ago and my daughter is the sole beneficiary of everything (a house not worth a lot, several insurance policies and some savings). However, it states that if she also dies, then everything goes to the KH that I used to attend. That KH has been disbanded for a couple of years now, but the $$$ would still go to the new one most likely. Surely I do not want them to get anything. Rather see the money go to a homeless shelter!

I need to contact an attorney this week. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You have made my day and I will be smiling for the rest of it.

I'd just like to say how pleased I am that my inheritance from my grandparents went to the WT Society via my parents. They've had all my money, yet still they won't speak to me.

Not very good manners, is it?

In this country, you can't disinherit your children nor your legal wife (legally she has the right to live support the way she lived before).

You can legally give / donate 25% of whatever you have to whomever you want, the rest - 75% will be equally distributed between your children and or husband or wife....

when you are married (the common way) half of everything is yours, the other half is from your significant other... that means that when you die - and you only have 1 child - that child gets 1/4 of everything, the remaining parent keeps 1/2 and 1/4 of the legacy (100%)

in case you have made a will in which you donate half of your fortune to for example The Kingdom Hall your heirs can complaint in which case the donation will be brought back to a quarter.

brothers, sisters or parents can't inherit when there are (legal) children (except when they are mentioned in the will for a lower total amount of 25%)

If there was a Watchtower article encouraging Witnesses to leave disfellowshipped people out of their will there would be an apostate outcry

Dont give 'em any ideas!! Geez!

Im with Mulan on this one I do understand why you havnt left anything to your daughters but hey they are still your daughters we all get very upset when someone in the truth doesnt accept us for who we are isnt it only fair that we accept say your daughters decision to be in the truth even tho we dont agree. I could never leave my son off my will just because he is doing something I dont agree with. Isnt that stooping to there level Sorry if this comes off harsh es

My JW parents get $1.00 each. It wasn't my idea, it was the lawyers. If I had my way they would get a big fat $0.00.

It's sorted Dansk, my parents made it clear to me from day one I would get nothing because it was all going to the society. In a strange turn of events, I'm now in a position to decide who gets money! I bet parents never think of that when they tell their children they wont get "nothing".

I will say that what I just said sounds really nasty in hindsight, but I have left a few thousand for my mother who is ill, but because I was always told her money was going to the Watchtower, I have left my house, my savings, life assurance, and the rest of my estate to my sister. (I have no wife or children).
