It's an incredibly difficult 5 mins to keep people from dozing off. Especially when you stop to consider some of those Bible readings subject matter.

Fairmind: Even if you were assigned the #2 everytime it should be teaching you something. At the least (in the elders eyes) it teaches humility. Being humble and doing just what they ask each time will get you further in the organization than anything else. How can they expect you to follow WT direction if you have an attitude like that. And if you can't follow direction from the elders, obviously you are not loyal to them, or to the Society, or to the Faithful and Secreet Slave, or to Jesus, or to Jehovah. The number 4 talk is for serious students of the WTBTS. Teaching their doctrines and such. Keeping our thoughts and ideas out of the picture is the proper way to progress. (Rant over)

Hope you don't take anything said here too seriously. The school can be beneficial if overseers used the school the way Jehovah intended it to and not for their own purposes.

for the last year that i was in da wit's, i would take nothing else but a #2 "talk" (reading). i read it like a robot from an Asimov novel, and ironically i never got a work-on and people always said they really liked the way i read. i think this is funny.

Maybe I was a butt kisser, but I actually used to make visual aids and do my own research on the material. I would often spend 3 minutes going over my poster board and or passages from other scriptures. The only time I would not do this (cause I would always go over) was when I was being counseled on time!

I have been out for 10 years now... but no one ever yelled at me about the visual aids back then.

Honesty

Who do I talk to about getting a part on the TMS? I don't care if it is a number 2 Talk as long as I get to pick out the scriptures to be read and use my Christian Standard Bible. And don't go counseling me to be humble and ~~grovel~~ submit to the directions of the ~~apostate~~ Faithful and Discreet Slave as they are ~~controlling~~ watching out for my soul.

inbyathread, I know you are not absolutely serious. I suppose I have a bad attitude when it comes to Elders and their supposed authority. If kissing their butts is what it takes to have them perceive me as humble then it will never happen. The fact of the matter is that I do not view Elders as special or superior to anyone else. Does Holy Spirit appoint them? I do not believe so.

Brothers assigned #2 talks have no work to do at all as far as I can see.

Well you still have to come up with an introduction and conclusion. If you want to do a good job, you can't just walk up to the podium and read your scripture. You have to analyze it for a while, think about what lessons could be taken from it (usually there will be several) and construct a presentation that gets the audience interested in the reading. Quite a task if you happen to get something from Numbers or Leviticus.

Hello tenebreux! It does not work that way any more. No introduction and no conclusion. All you do is read the assignment without commentary of any kind. I am not sure why they now do it this way but I suspect it is because they did not want applications made that did not support WT teachings.
