After 33 years of marriage, my divorce became final today.

My wife is still a JW, though I left a decade or so ago. We always thought we'd be the exception that would stay together despite one of us no longer believing.

A very bittersweet day. She was a terrific wife in so many ways.

No matter what resolves you have come to so far.......

    the final day just sucks,

no matter how good or bad the relationship was. Tends to be a day to think of the good.

    It gets better......

My heart goes out to you, Seeker. All I ever wanted was a woman who I could cherish and who I could grow old with. Some things will never be. That sucks. Move on, move forward. Robbie - planting my hopes on Ditto

Thirty-three years. Wow, this has got to be a rough transition for you. Yes, it's hard to look at that piece of paper for the first time. Mine is put away in a file, and I still don't like to see it, even after 15 years. It brings back the old dreams, and a sharp feeling of disappointment. You are so right.

There is life after divorce, though. Hang in there, kay?

This coming July my wife and I will have been married 31 years.

We separated in December 1996 after she was told I had to leave home as I was a "spiritual danger" to the family.

In September 2001 I disassociated since then she has not spoken to or had contact with me in anyway.

I am 54, she is 51. There has been no one else involved. Our youngest child is now 16.

    Should I get divorced?

    On what grounds?

Can you get a divorce on the grounds of abandonment?

I knew a couple who divorced after 55 years because he decided at age 75 he was gay. She then decided she was gay also. Now they live in the same duplex they once shared as a couple but now they live in different sides of the duplex.

although it doesn't seem likely, it will get better eventually. Just make sure to take it one day at a time for the next couple of years or so.
