Is it healthy to be in a perpetual state of urgency?

This "sense of urgency" has been going on for over 2000 years.

(1 John 2:18) Young children, it is the last hour, and, just as YOU have heard that antichrist is coming, even now there have come to be many antichrists; from which fact we gain the knowledge that it is the last hour.

Perpetual state of urgency = general adaptation syndrome, the body's response to stress. First stage is "fight or flight" which is probably the state that most people "come into the truth" on. 2nd stage is the adaptive phase where the body rallies it's defenses for the long haul. Finally there is the exhaustion phase where the system has used up all of it's resources and is starting to fail.

When I look at my 58 y.o. parents, I can see that this is the phase they have entered into. Very sad.

As was mentioned before, any personal pursuits were to be shelved. Hobbies that give a sense of satisfaction when done, researching and delving into the wonders of creation on whatever interests you....and so much more.

All these things are frowned on by the WTS, which main goal is to promote THEM! It doesn't matter that JWs have many talents and personalities and have so much they could give as individuals.

The "urgency" is therefore a smokescreen to keep reminding the JWs of the "New World" where everything will be notably perfect, and by frittering their time and talents away---they will not be there! All their previous efforts will be in vain.

Despite ALL the failures of the WT, it still insists on keeping up this facade and making the "carrot" appear even closer. How many ways can we spell LIARS!

    Odrade,

I appreciated your post. I see that same reaction in many that I know. Older ones are physically worn out and the middle aged are really tired.

It's like living with a warning siren going off in your head and you're not allowed to turn it off. After a while you either ignore it or go crazy. That seems to sum up most witnesses.

    "sense of urgency"

    Is this "scriptural"?

And how do they reconcile this with JC's counsel to "not be anxious" and to "raise yourselves erect as your deliverence is near"?

In all this ''urgency'', while the Rank and File were giving their 'all' for the Society (giving up material comforts and even SELLING their properties - which they wouldn't need - in order to spread God's Word), the Society ITSELF were BUYING up peroperties and making investments. Got their fingers in everything material. Hypocrites.

Can anyone tell me WHY the Daniel Book is being studied again? (surely some/most of it is outdated thinking?) - I'm sure I remember studying it YEARS ago.

    Surely everybody remembers 9/11.

In the months afterward everybody was at full alert. But now we are almost four years down the road later. Oh, in some respects we are different and in some areas more alert but this state of perpetual urgency cannot be maintained.

A human cannot constantly maintain an edge of the seat urgency about anything. It goes against nature and we would suffer adrenal exhaustion.

The same also applies to the dubs and their perpetual state of urgency.

Well, the rank and file do not seem to have a "sense of urgency" so the GB encourages them to get one.

...and the GB's sense of urgency? Checking the share prices?
