    YOU KNOW WHO!

We talked about Jehovah's name being important and it was explained that Jehovah is a form of Yahweh, just as people names may be spelled differently, so Jehovah is how some people spell Yahweh.

We had quotes from Daniel and Deuteromony?

We also got round to Judges 1;8,21.

They said that THE REASON that it says the men of Judah took Jerusalem near the beginning of Judges is because in a newspaper, the journalists emphasizes a certain part of the story.

The events in Judges 1;8 may have happened during the `split' between Israel and Judah.

Jerusalem was like Gibeon, surroundering to the Israelites, only later it became apostate.

If Jehovahs name is so important (personal name rather than reputation and what he stands for) then why did none of the authors of the Christian Greek scriptures use it in the New Testament, nor even in the non canonical scriptures?

Even in the NWT there are seven Books of the New Testament that never use it at all. Could it be that JWs are mistaken about the importance of the Divine Name in the New Testament. The NT authors make it clear that it is Christs name that must be used.

It was wrong however to remove the Divine Name from the Old Testament and replace it with Lord, just as wrong as what the NWT did by inserting it into the NT. Their Kingdom Interlinear is the best guide to what the original authors wrote ignoring the adjacent NWT distortions)

OK, Evilforce, I'm going in - cover me.lol....

There is a lot of information on the Web about God's name. For example :-

    http://www.seekwhatistruth.com/hisname.htm

The form ?Jehovah? is of late medieval origin; it is a combination of the consonants of the Divine Name and the vowels attached to it by the Masoretes but belonging to an entirely different word. The sound of Y is represented by J and the sound of W by V, as in Latin. For two reasons the Committee has returned to the more familiar usage of the King James Version: (1) the word ?Jehovah? does not accurately represent any form of the Name ever used in Hebrew; and (2) the use of any proper name for the one and only God, as though there were other gods from whom He had to be distinguished, was discontinued in Judaism before the Christian era and is entirely inappropriate for the universal faith of the Christian Church.

The tetragrammaton ceased to be used several hundred years BC. Rabbis today forbid the verbalisation of God's name as the correct pronounciation has been lost (yet the NEAREST would be ''Yahweh'), and attempting to would result in blaspheming. From this, I personally believe (and I hope I am not offending anyone), the name ''Jehovah'' is a bastardisation of God's name.

From a personal point (and I felt this as a JW) I don't understand why I NEED/SHOULD address my Heavenly father by His personal name - as I certainly wouldn't my EARTHLY father as this would be disrespectful.
