    God's Debris by Scott Adams. (He's the Dilbert guy, but it isn't a humor book. Very thought provoking.)

    Atlas Shrugged was good, but I felt it wasn't entirely fair or accurate. Thought provoking--yes. Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis is a good, thought provoking read.

    the women's room by marilyn french was a HUGE eye-opener for me when i read it in the 70's. everyone should read it but particularly every woman.

    That would be Vonnegut's, Slaughterhouse Five, or was it Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby? No it had to be Huxley's Brave New World. Or it is Tourgee's A Fools Errand?
