Can the world condition be worse than this?

    Oubliette,

Here is a film star whose wife is a medical practitioner. He has gone on record saying "he and his wife have never tasted even a drop of alcohol, because it is nothing but poison!"

Look at his body--he is 57, yet acts roles for those in the 20's.

Future events are guaranteed on the basis of the established pattern of the past.

Name one specific prophecy with a date, exactly what would happen and who would be involved that came true.

) Everyone knows a friendly neighbour is better security than costly war-preparedness, yet no one wants to try this, but continue with the past wasteful method.

I neither lock my house nor my car. You've been proven wrong (not that it will stop you from spreading ignorant woo, it never has).

    2) It's everyone's experience that alcohol has no benefits except harm to the self and others, yet use of alcohol thrives!

That's not my experience either. Wrong again.

Why do you keep making stuff up? Are you a brilliant troll or just utterly committed to woo so reality holds no meaning for you?

    Cofty and Viviane,

Wording on alcohol is just a reproduction of what Traffic Police has put up on many High Ways!

In the United States the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that 17,941 people died in 2006 in alcohol-related collisions, representing 40% of total traffic deaths in the US. NHTSA states 275,000 were injured in alcohol-related accidents in 2003.[1] The Bureau of Justice Statistics estimated that in 1996 local law enforcement agencies made 1,467,300 arrests nationwide for driving under the influence of alcohol, 1 out of every 10 arrests for all crimes in the U.S., compared to 1.9 million such arrests during the peak year in 1983, accounting for 1 out of every 80 licensed drivers in the U.S

    So don't drink and drive.

He looks his age. Its amazing what a bit of makeup can do.

I am a bit late to the thread but it's made for interesting reading.

As a mentally in JW it was easy to consider that the world is full of violence that is not being solved and is getting worse.  As my mind has opened and I've stopped employing cognitive dissonance to square the circle in my head then I have come to realise that I am fecking ecstatic I was not born 100, 500, 1000, 10000 years ago.

My living standards are good.  I have access to good quality medical care.  I am comfortable most of the time.  I am not hungry.  My risk of a violent death is low.  I am not faced with severe poverty.  The vast majority of people around me are in a similar boat.

Of course this is not the same globally.  I recognise that I am still very fortunate.  I know there are people suffering in my country let alone around the world.  I see the wars and violence around.  It's certainly not a case of "I'm all right Jack", just recognising that proportionally life was a hell of a lot harder and risky for a hell of a lot more people in times past.

The world has a lot of problems.  Conflict and economic instability are constant.  I feel far more confident about the future now however than I did before I mentally threw out JW doctrine.   As much as right wing nutters, Islamic extremists and others try to drag us back, too many people have experienced too much relative comfort to let the whole world slide to some form of global chaos.

Why is it that Northern Ireland has not reverted to full on sectarian violence even though there is still some conflict between the extremists on both sides there?  Because most people actually like to be able to live their lives in relative peace.  Because most people don't want soldiers on the street.  Because most people don't feel the need to go and blow someone else up because they want something different.  Once the extremist leaders lost their grip on political situation then the situation was diffused and, surprise surprise, most people realised that life was a bit better without nutters blowing each other up.

The situation is repeated around the world.  Once extremist leaders no longer are able to spout their rhetoric of hate then most people appreciate the relative normality that ensues.  I think you will find the same with any Witness who wakes up.  Once the rhetoric of nonsense like that coming out of the mouth of Morris loses it's hold then so too does this notion that the world is going to shite and we are all about to be screwed unless God steps in and sweeps away 7 billion people.

So the actor husband of a doctor says something and that settles it?

Then you shouldn't drink. Because you can't even think properly when sober.

I on the other hand demand evidence from credible sources.

“Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.”

― sometimes this quote is attributed to Socrates

    Abiather,

Two things. First I admire your trying to be your own person and express your own views even if they are not popular. That is a basic right of us all.

Also, I am reading this thread first thing in the morning and it is heartening to see the kindness being shown to you.

It makes me feel good about my fellow posters and about the world in general.

When people who disagree with you, respond to you with kindness and patience, that makes a powerful argument that the world is a truly wonderful place

abiather - "Can the world condition be worse than this?"

    Yes.

And, in fact, it has been.

It was called "The Dark Ages".

So? Seat belt laws and car design have, over the years, dramatically lowered the death rate from driving. I just proved the world is getting better.

Also, since you included no sources with your numbers, I'm afraid they are dismissed and don't count. World is getting better, you just gave us proof!

    Abiathar,

I'm still waiting for you to pick a time that you would prefer to live in other than today. Do you like your own running water? If so, that would place you in the 20th Century - but only in a few places. Like hot water with that? Further in the 20th Century. Do you enjoy not having to split wood, shovel coal, dig peat moss or dry cow dung for fuel to keep you warm or cook your food? If so, once again you are squarely in the 20th Century and a few places at that.

Do you get retirement benefits? Health care? Do you like the state of the art hospitals? Do you like cable tv, the internet (obviously)?
