The only thing that makes me sorry to be an American is not getting to see the Eurovison Song Contest. The first time I heard of the contest was while watching a parody on the Benny Hill show in the 70's. I have been wanting to see the real thing for over 25 years.

I loved that band from Moldova with the granny in the rocking chair playing a drum!

Ozzie, I loved those cringeworthy interludes with the Klitchko brothers - they should really stick to their day jobs

I really laughed when Wogan said about the Greek girl 'the last time I saw a pair of legs like that they were stood in a nest'

I think Wogan's right that the UK are the only country who knows it's kitsch nonsense and not an actual song contest. I mean the Ukraine even had the president hand over the award!

Yeah, perhaps that's why there were so many votes for Moldova! Wasn't it AWFUL!!

If that greek girl's song is considered as the best of europe, you didn't miss much, robert k stock.

It seemed to me that the "best" weren't having anything to do with it!

I loved how he kept referring to the presenters as Ant and Shriek

Best was a few years back when he referred to the presenters as "Frankenstein and the Tooth Fairy" and the humourless bastards got all mardy about it when they found out - I think he had to apologise!

One of my best friends was at school with the 2001 UK competitor Lindsay Dracass (was 16 and sang "No Dream Impossible" which was a really crap song).

I missed the singing this time as I was watching "Baby One More Time", but made sure I tuned in for the results with Wogan (Scab - crossed the picket lines at the Beeb yesterday) who by his own admission is tipsy after a few songs!

That explains it. It sounds like it's an event where people desperate for fame, who can't make it anywhere else get in.

It used to be, say 30 years ago, an event where unknowns "made it" eg. ABBA, at other times, top stars were in it like Cliff Richard, but now............................... (groan)
