Amazing documentary on tonight on Channel 5 (UK)

Daniel was interviewed on a UK show earlier today, and he is AMAZING! He learned to speak a language in just seven days (and was fluent in it). He calculated 13 divided by 97 in his head in about 3 seconds and gave the answer to 100 decimal places!

He has autism and aspergers, but he was interviewed and talked just like a normal guy (he isn't severely disabled like many savants). He is now in the top 50 in the world.

The Boy With The Incredible Brain: Extraordinary People (Documentary)

Documentary. How can Daniel do calculations to 100 decimal places in his head? Or remember over 20,000 numbers? Could he learn one of the world's hardest languages in just one week? Leading scientists explore the extraordinary world of this British 'Rainman'.

He sure was amazing, he also learnt Spanish in a weekend for goodness sake. I?m really looking forward to the documentary tonight.

Talking about Richard & Judy (as I?m sure you were) why does Richard have to bring sex into every conversation.

I saw him on David Letterman a few weeks ago.

Not only does he have Asperger's, but he also said he has synesthesia, which I have too!! That makes him the umpteenth person I know of that has both (not statistically significant by any means, but still intriguing).

Of course, I have absolutely zero math skills.

I believe that he also calculated pi to the 22,514th place in his head. It took him around 5.5 hours to state all the digits.

Did someone say the word sex in here??????

    My ears were burning....LOL

The brain works in odd ways. I think the Bush admin should hire this guy to calculate the national debt.

Damn! I meant to watch that show but I was watching When Sharks Attack on Sky One

It doesn't surprise me he has synesthesia though. There are different types of it but one is where people can see number lines in 3 dimensions in front of them and can easily visualise very high numbers or complex sums.

New Worldly....I am in awe of his synesthesia. I would love to have that ability to see complex numbers as complex shapes. My own synesthesia is much more prosaic...numbers and letters as colors, sounds and music as colors and shapes. I wonder if the shapes I perceive in music is at all related to the shapes he sees in numbers. After all, music is supposedly mathematical, right? Maybe I just don't experience a number like I experience music; a long number is just a string of digits to me.
