In all fairness this kind of thing happens with young people in most other faiths as well though. The only difference is that Jehovah's Witnesses are probably the only church that will cut someone off for youthful indescresion whereas most churches view sin to be a private matter between the person and their God.

Jez its sounds like youre describing my high school days lol. Ive notice the total opposite some of the "worldly" would consider these kids dorks or geeks.

It seems that the more parents push, the more kids want to get away.

I absolutely hated going to KH services as a kid. It was so boring that many people fell asleep, and at the end we always stuck around and "talked" to a bunch of people we didn't even know. It was so nauseatingly awkward. Everyone wore fake smiles. If they were real, it was only because the dull service was over and people were ecstatic about going home. I know that sounds a little over-the-top, but that's the way things seemed.

Why can't they liven things up a bit?

God, I wish I knew you guys when I was growing up! Tals, you sound like a great flatmate! All of my Witness flatmates were holier than thou - if someone didn't do the washing up, there was hell to pay! Well, my best ever flatmate had done the wild thang - drink, drugs, sex - but she was so little & funny, & didn't pretend to be anything she wasn't - she wasn't a real Witness like me!

I must say I also got up to nonsense BUT I NEVER had this 'I'm holier than thou' attitude - I just said " I'm a witness yes but not the best there is - I'm the naughty one. Can I handle your microphone "

The sad thing about this is that these young boys grow up to be elders, and once elders forget what they did in their youth and disfellowship ones that have been caught doing exactly what they have done in their early lives.

Yes a bunch of hypocrites they are. Hopefully the majority of them will be smart to get the hell out of that cult before it is too late.

Unfortunately my 'double life' extended to swearing, enthusiastic masturbation and playing RPG's, not anything really interesting like girls, drugs or music that debases.

I was also the ONLY Witness in one of the schools I went to. I did see that most of the JW kids in a school I attended for a short time were obviously doing their best to keep it a secret.

But if you look at the 'abstinace-based' sex "education" movements in the USA, and the higher than normal rate of anal and oral sex in such populations, you can see being hypocritical is something that a high-control religious life-style forces on ANY teenagers.

... oh, I cleared 10,000 seperate spyware infections off my brother's PC (he has a teenage son and two in their twenties, all living at home). Of course, they NEVER went to porn sites, LOL.

And my other brother having a $800 phone bill because of one of his teenage sons 'accidentally' downloading a dialler highjacker could have NOTHING to do with porn! LOL.

I agree it is a bad situation but if your choices are either live a lie or get thrown out of the house without any financial support, the easy answer is live the lie.

I did for many years, I was determined to get a college education and to be financial independent from my parents. It would buy me the right to make my own decisions and live my life the way I wanted without the ramifications from my family.

Once I got my education I got outta the "troof" as fast as possible and I have never regreted my choice.

Try not to judge these kids too harshly. They are just trying to survive in a tottally unhealthy environment.
