    A few times............

Once, I was laying down in bed, trying to fall asleep. All of a sudden, my back was being rubbed. My husband wasn't home! Weird!

This was the scariest......... I was taking a nap (same room) and I woke up! I couldn't move nothing could move. I was laying there, and couldn't scream, or move. I was so scared thinking... what the hell....I am awake and I can't move. 15 minutes went by. I was fighting to move. All my strength, and energy. It was like someone was holding me down. Then I jumped up and everything was normal. What scares me is that I heard heavy breathing during the whole time. I was not making the breathing noise!

i don't doubt that everyone in this thread has truly experienced what they did. and as diamond said, there are probably rational explanations for all this stuff, but it is still spooky. it is spooky because our minds can out-compute the limited input of our senses.

with regards to rational explanations for phenomena that we experience in this physical world, the rule of parsimony should really be given serious consideration in trying to explain these spooky experiences. parsimony (also well embodied in Occam's Razor) is the scientific/logical rule of preferring the explanation with the fewest assumptions. after all, is it not science that is helping us all understand nature better than any previous systems of investigation?

in the case of spooky experiences, a simple mind experiment could help you determine the most likely truthful explanation for the spooky experience. using parsimony:

which of my explanations contain the fewest assumptions?

explanation 1: it is coincidence that i woke up at the moment my dear family member died. (one assumption: coincidence)

explanation 2: there are unseen forces. they work to help us or hurt us. an unseen force awoke me at the moment that my dear family member died. (three assumptions)

explanation 3: we are all somehow connected in the great universe. i was somehow connected to my family member because we were close. when my dear family member died, the connection was severed, or disturbed somehow, and a woke up. (three assumptions)

i hope this helps. fear of the supernatural is an old, ancient way of thinking. our species has a compulsive desire to explain things. when education, knowledge and science were not available to explain natural phenomenon, they still tried to explain it. it kept the tribe together, and fostered faith in the tribe leader. but we're modern. there is nothing wrong with throwing down, letting go of, the explainations our ancestors held to. who knows where we could go without them?

    cheers,

    TS

That is interesting Brooke , because I have had some strange experiences while dreaming, or in that state before you drift off, or who knows where our mind goes.

I had a dream that my hubby's Grandfather was dying, we knew he was going too soon. I dreamed my Mother in law called and said......." well, it's over", then she said, no wait he isnt dead,,,,,,,,,,,,,,then she said " yes he is gone".

I woke up straight out of the bed and it woke my hubby up, I told him about it. He said it was just a dream and to try to get some sleep.

The phone rang a few hours later and I answered it ,,,,,,,my MIL said...." well it's over". Just like she said in the dream. I told her all about the dream , that he was dead , then she said he wasnt. She said that is how it happened. They all thought he was dead for awhile ,but he was still alive then 30 to 40 minutes later he really was gone.

I have had a few dreams like this since I was young. I used to dream that my Mother died. I always, always grew up knowing deep inside that something was going to happen to her and it did. I always figured it was because of the path she took all those years and it was bound to get to her.........drug abuse and depression.

Now, when I dream a dream, that disturbs me, I take precautions just to be safe. I even tell somene if something happens to them in a dream I have to be extra careful. Maybe it is just me being worried about a path or choice they are taking in their life. So far no bad things have happened lately.

Whyamihere - The experience that you talked about where you woke up in the night unable to move happens to me from time to time too.

Its called sleep paralysis and is associated with narcolepsy.

It is scary when it first happens but if you look into it you'll see that its just a harmless medical disorder.

True....However, does it feel like a 200 pound person on you and the sound of someone breathing heavily?

Brooke....it is actually very common. Everyone's experience is slightly different but have very similar sensations. I had posted a response on this on a previous thread....let me dig it up and repost here.

When I was a teenager I was at the opening of a phone shop with some friends.

There were phones which you could use test ring tones and handling. I picked one of the phones in the shop, dialed 0 + the number of a friend. I asked him to come over to the phone shop.

I turned to one of the sales people and said it was great that I could phone for free. He said this was not possible because there was no connection to the outside and showed me the cables. I told him that I had just called someone from the outside. I tried to show and it did not work. The salesperson went away.

Some minute later, my friend came over.

I have never figured that one out.

Years ago before I became a dub I went with a friend to a bar where her friend, the barmaid, was a "witch" who did palm reading. One thing she told me was that there was a "male" spirit who was watching over me. Whatever!

Anyway, on the ride home when I was in the car by myself I had a strange feeling that I wasn't alone. I got so spooked I almost ran the car off the road. Good thing I was on a side street!
