Minimus,
They allow association with worldlings as it suits them, for their own needs and wants. I also tend to agree with your "dick theory" as many elders are exactly that!

Minimus,
They allow association with worldlings as it suits them, for their own needs and wants. I also tend to agree with your "dick theory" as many elders are exactly that!
If association involves money, all rules to avoid "worldly" people are gone. Association rules do apply to sex partners and social connections, but they do not apply to business OR the activity of raising funds for the business of religion.
Jehovah's Witnesses compartmentalize everything, and I mean EVERYTHING! They will shun a close relative for doing a Christmas activity like going to a Christmas party while they are carrying a Christmas bonus check from their job in their back pocket.
It's all about control and rationalization and justification.
I'm starting to notice a pattern that the WTS at various times comes out with two takes on a given situation. That way the elders can use the version that suits them at the time.
A used to be friend of mine was disfellowshipped for attending worldly functions- for singing with me (a non- witness) in a local country band. Yet the elders attend the establishment often- they are bluegrass fans. Seems strange that THEY are allowed to attend --- and socialize with worldly people every Sat night.
They always manage to turn to 1 Cor. 15:33; maybe someday one of them will crack open a Bible and read 1 Cor. 10:27. (Same Apostle, same letter) Perhaps Paul wouldn't have agreed with the Elder (?)
another control thing
Yes, they do use 2 different reference points to prove whatever they're trying to prove.
oh puke!
There was an elder's wife that was a pioneer and she would run all over town, taking this "bible student" anywhere she needed to go, doctors, store, etc. This woman was nasty, and a known prositute on crack. Most everyone knew she was just using this pioneer sister to get favors, a ride and money as needed from her. Getting that time preaching, while doing errands was a sweet little deal she had going on there. This woman admitted to me after I left the borg, that she did in fact just study with the pioneer because she did things for her , while still attending her own church.
It was such crap because there were ones in the congregation who would not associated with ones who missed too many meetings. But it was ok for them to spend so much time with "bible students" as long as they were preaching.
This same pioneer sister had the nerve to question my little boy about his association with HIS bible student who was his age. There were not supposed to be out playing ball together , just studying only. Don't worry I told her she needed to mind her own business, and let me decide what was best for my kid.
ERRRRRRR!!
DOUBLE STANDARDS!!
I might word it more G-rated for our young readers, but, with few exceptions, what elder isn't?
