I know this has probably been asked before.

Did Anything Positive Come From You Being A JW?

I personally was never a JW....but I have benefited from Darling husband being one. From working on all those quick builds and being involved in all those cleaning businesses. He can do anything! Our house was definately a fixer upper and he knew how to do everything.

I learned what I don't want in a religion and when I started researching the JW's I met some of the nicest people I have known in my life. People who have offered me support in some of my darket hours...

    Anyone want to add anything?

I'm an exellent public speaker thanks to the TMS.

I can sell ANYTHING (drugs, vacuums) thanks to service.

    I can tie a tie.

I can wear a suit all day and still look damn good at 7:30 that evening.

The Ministry School was beneficial for learning how to speak to an audience. I remember taking a required speech class in the one year of college that I took and the instructor was impressed how I had developed my material and presented it without any nervousness compared to most of the rest of the class.

I think I have to credit my parents and not the JWs for learning how to dress nice. My parents forced me to learn how to tie a tie when most of the other brothers my age were wearing clip-on ties. Later, in my twenties I could pick out a nice suit with matching shirt and tie and look pretty sharp while the other brothers were wearing some of the most god-awful clothes you could think of.

I agree about the public speaking.

I am good at it because I have been doing it all my life.

And although my teen years were very restrictive, it did keep me out of trouble and taught me how not to succumb to peer pressure.

I was used to being the odd man out.

It led me to this board. In all seriousness, being here has introduced me to one of the best things to ever come into my life. Thank you, JWD

I can't think of one thing. Because the elders told me I couldn't get to know my real dad, I did what most would do, and did it anyway. Because of having to do "women's work" (gag me), I can cook for alot of people. I can speak in public. But then my mouth overloads my ass most of the time. Oh, I did learn how to handle elder's meetings and totally piss them off.~~

Certain relationships with certain individuals that I still enjoy, 25 + years later. Oh, those folks left the Watchtower as well.

Other positives? I learned to read at a very early age, and also had substantially greater reading comprehension than most of my peers in grade school. It also introduced me to public speaking, and the skills I gained as a result continue to benefit me in my career.

That's about all the positives I can think of. If I was to list the negatives, we'd need several pages and Simon would probably need to upgrade his server storage capacity.
