Remember these words?: "We Are NEVER on Vacation from Jehovah"

Often, this very "reminder" was in the Kingdom Ministry.

This meant that no matter where you went, no matter where you were, you weren't supposed to miss any meetings.

Travel to another city for your job? Open the Yellow Pages and find the nearest Kingdom Hall so that you don't miss a meeting.

Going on vacation from your family? Before you go, ask your elders if they can contact a congregation in the city in which you be.

There is nothing worse (okay, perhaps there are worse things) than going away for a vacation (or, "holiday" for you non-american folks) and having to STILL go to all of the meetings AND field service!

With that said, I am happy to report that I am going to Ocean City, Maryland tomorrow and I won't be going to ANY meetings......Of course, I haven't been to an actual meeting for more than two years now!

How about you? Did you have to go to meetings when you were in a different city/country/continent? Did you enjoy it? Or, did you detest it?

PS...That is NOT really Funchback in my AVATAR!!! LOL!

During the time when I was a good dub, I think I took one little trip. Generally couldn't afford vacations. Had to save up just to stay in a hotel and eat out for Circuit and District Assemblies. On that one overnight trip with the boys, we did not try to find a local hall to attend. I was way, way too shy for that. LOL

The dreadful elder I used to work for many years ago and his wife put together "fun" vacation trips...cruises mostly... for groups from their congregation. From what my friend (who joined this happy crew once) said, it wasn't too bad. She certainly got a kick out of seeing how much duty-free booze this elder and his wife could fit in their suitcases to take home.

I'm pretty sure I'd rather have a root canal than be stuck on a ship with a bunch of dubs, especially if the group included Elder Pompous Dumbass.

I know many JWs who never go to the meetings when

    At DisneyWorld

    Camping

    Hunting

    On a cruise

    In Jamaica/Cancun/etc.

    True, blondie.

But there are also many that DO.

I have heard of JW cruises where they rent one of meeting/banquet rooms and have meetings.

Funchback, over the last 40 or more years, I can vouch that maybe 15% do; the vast majority do not especially if there is no way for someone else to check up on them. The worst offenders are elders. As to cruises, I know a JW that books cruises for JWs and no meetings have been arranged. You must know the more spiritual 15%. The JWs I know meet in the bar and see how much they can drink in one evening.

Here is another site.....this if you are visiting Bethel.

WARNING: Kingdom melodies are playing in the background. If you don't want to listen to that racket turn your volume off.

I went to meetings in many countries - and most of the time did enjoy it!
