    Thanks guys for your input, it is all very insightful.

    Aude, thanx, Podiatrist? Well I really don’t have some nickname or a hero I can identify with so I thought hell I’ll just write my occupation lol

    It wasn’t hard to find this site it was enough to type in combination of words in google and here I was …

    Thank you for well wishes.

    In any case I agree that fear is quickly becoming a global phenomenon. However, from where I stand I can easily see that most of its causes can be traced down to fundamentalist religious thinking of different fractions, and watchtower is not exception. In fact, I’d say they have quite a substantial share in their mini-universe.

    It would prolly be someone nailing my nutsack to one end of a log and then setting the other side of the log on fire.

    However, there is another side to the story i.e. imaginary enemy that instills very real kind of fear. Take for example company selling a product, say a medication. Interestingly, before seeing their ad on TV you never had real need for the medication, but now you started to fear about possible consequences.

    In my view religions work the same way, they create in your mental sphere an idea that there is enemy out there and they are the only ones that have a cure for you. See my point? What frustrates me is that they don’t even stop at instilling that fear in very young children. Everything is conditional under feeling of all-permeating, ever-present fear.

    One oxymoron that jw are particularly promoting is “healthy fear of god” is there really such a thing??? Even if there was, what they are really promoting is not so much fear of god but fear of not living up to standards delineated by WT society.

    Another thing I forgot to mention was that I did visit few of their meetings too. Mom gave me her book with songs before introductory prayer. What surprised me again was that in the song there was melodious mentioning of name Satan. I was shocked. I was really shocked. Admittedly, they were singing how they will sort of defeat him or something, I cant remember clearly. But assuming that such an evil person exist why would you want to sing about him?!? What you are singing about are his attributes of which he’s apparently proud. So why would you want to put that in the song is beyond me. From what I know even bible is mentioning him only few times directly by name when it was absolutely necessary. I doubt that any other Christian religion does that, correct me if I’m wrong.

    Which brings me back to my original point, that JWs are very paranoid bunch, they fear, above mentioned person, fear god, fear “the world”, fear their own “false brothers and sisters” as per my mom anyway, fear their own bodies.

    Jesus Christ, what is going on here????

    Interesting. Thanks for sharing that.

    I was 'raised' in the organization. My parents joined when I was 10. I believed it was the truth and even full time pioneered (90 hours per month in preaching work) plus meetings and all that while supporting myself working full time. I was quite committed.

    Then I started noticing things that were just not right.

    Late 20's and early 30's I started to 'fade'.

    One day just up and left the Kingdom Hall. I didn't know the extent of the falicy until I found this site 6 months ago.

    The 'fear' that they instill in their members does indeed come close to paranoia, as far as I'm concerned. Not trained in psychology, but I know I had some pretty paranoid tendencies.

    The WTBTS paints a nice picture. But it's not real. And there is much lying and deceipt. More emphasis is placed on Appearance than Reality.

    I think that is possibly more damaging to children than the fear.

    There is much talk here of 'cognitive dissonance.' Many of us are in therapy to sort all that out. We have to relearn things that we believed were real.

    I'm sorry you are losing family to a cult.

    My father and 3 brothers are now out. Mother and sister are still in. My family will never be a real family.

    Cults Suck.

    Sorry for the wandering thoughts. It's late and I just let my fingers do the talking!!

    Thanks again and welcome. Look forward to hearing more from you.

    -Aude.

    Harmony is only in following the Way.

    The Way is without form or quality,
    But expresses all forms and qualities;
    The Way is hidden and implicate,
    But expresses all of nature;
    The Way is unchanging,
    But expresses all motion.

    Beneath sensation and memory
    The Way is the source of all the world.
    How can I understand the source of the world?
    By accepting.
