Actually, they won't anymore. I can't remember all the legalities of it now, but basically, the GB has split up the Borg into so many different entities that it makes suing the Society much more difficult. There were some posts done on this a while back, but my understanding is that the Society has distanced itself from the "congregation", so that they can claim they had nothing to do with someone's getting disfellowshipped and therefore, you can't sue them. Therefore, you'd be suing the elders who decided to DF you. Even if you didn't win, the elders would still have to secure a lawyer for their defence and as we all know, lawyers fees are astronomical. Meaning that unless the elders were extremely wealthy, they could end up owing tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of dollars in legal fees.

If they anointed, then they are part of the FDS. They have just as much right to make and\or enforce “rules” then does the GB.

Perhaps many JW lurkers really think the policies, doctrines, and new light that is published comes somehow from the 8,500 FDS. This has never happened. They are not even consulted. These doctrines come from people who hold POSITIONS whether anointed or not. Being Anointed stands for nothing, but it allows the mostly anointed GB to claim some Biblical authority. The FDS are just part of Rank and File, unlesss they happen to hold a high postition.

    Mary,

Even if you didn't win, the elders would still have to secure a lawyer for their defence and as we all know, lawyers fees are astronomical. Meaning that unless the elders were extremely wealthy, they could end up owing tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of dollars in legal fees.

As I pointed out though, the Society will be there with their posse of Bethel lawyers. It won't be the elder footing the bill. The last thing they need is someone to successfully sue either the elders or the org over a DFing. It would set far too dangerous a precedent.
