Who else is demonstrating a love for all humanity at that level?

Are they really that ignorant of the missionary work by millions of Christians around the world. Who do they think translated the Bible into more than 2,000 languages??? JWs don't even register on the scale of Christianity preaching the good news in all the world. But the other religions are also buildingng hospitals, orphanages, and doing charity work (for people regardless of their beliefs). Do they truly not know this???

As for preaching the gospel, whilst other Christians are preaching the Biblical version, based on unconditional love, JWs are preaching a twentieth century version, whose author was Joseph Rutherford in the Spring of 1935. That is when they ceased to be any form of Christianity. Jesus said to preach THIS good news of the Kingdom. He did not say it would have to be updated by one man 2000 years later, especialy a man who got every prediction wrong by misunderstanding the Bible.

What annoys me is that the WTS make everyone in the hall think that they are the only ones doing any good out in "the world."

The fact is that many churches and other organizations do a lot of great work, and much more of it than the witnesses. But the rank and file will never know, because they are not allowed to find out.

These are just one tiny Christian religion, (twice as big as JWs) There are tens of thousands of other Christian religions, all showing more love and preaching a more Biblical gospel than the one written by Rutherford. I only picked out adventists because I used to be one 30 years ago, but there are hundreds that would put JWs to shame.

I was impressed by their letter...

Now...Now...before you start farting in my general direction I think this letter is, in its simplicity, an excellent nutshell of how they view themselves. It accurately represents their perceived sovereignty over all other religions in the great scheme of things.

1.) They think they're the one true religion...but misunderstood

2.) They think they are committing the grandest act of love by revealing "Bible truths" to the unbelieving masses, an act, in their mind, that is far greater than any other large scale act of goodness.

By debating with them, you're really challenging their soverignty and you'll eventually have to admit what you honestly feel, i.e., that they really don't have "the truth". Do you want to go through this? If you do, tell them to meet you on your own terms. It will be the mother of all pissing contests, I can assure you.

That letter sure sounds like a form letter to me too...they probably have a filing cabinet filled with this stuff because so many are leaving. I also detect that they want you to come to them (a summons) so that they can have the last word and put you in your place. It chokes them up that YOU told them how it's going to be, not the other way around. Right now you are in charge of your own exit and THEY don't like it. Keep it that way. That's a better memory than the ones you'll have when they are through with you!

please respond to us by May 31, 2005.

    Yep, too late!

Clearly they weren't too anxious to keep you after all! More likely they were anxious to meet the legalistic requirements they follow.

    jaffacake:

7th day adventist church: 5 houses away from where I live. A beautiful building, yet not over-kill, and no cross. One of these days I'm going to get a picture of it. It's postcard perfect. White in colour, has a school for grades K-7, serves dinner to the poor every Thursday night, AND it's where I'm supposed to go VOTE during the federal election.

Kingdom Hall: 2 minutes away. Full of mold. Makes one physically sick just to be there. No cross, no meals for the poor, no real public access. Education strongly discouraged. Ugly.

    hmmm.....

The time that has elapsed since you mailed out your letter of resignation and our communique to you shows that we are not anxious to lose you.

This also strikes me as odd. It reads like, "You can tell by how late we got back to you that we don't really care if you come back."

bebu, they took 3 weeks to respond to our letter, and they are saying that because they were so "quick" they are showing they are hoping not to lose us. what's funny is they gave us 9 days to respond, so I'm sure it's all just a matter of legality seeing that two elders signed it.

some things we decided to reply with are:

    1. they are comparing the wts as the only organization of christians today, to everyone outside of it as being non-christians, which is simply untrue. it is ridiculous to think that membership with wts is the only acceptable way to worship God.

    2. apostasy corrupted first century christians, and basic teachings of christ remain in most every christian organization today. not a single Christian organization has absolute truth or flawless behavior.

    3. wts has been making and is making today many mistakes just like the rest of christian organizations of the world.

    4. we should not follow any man's direction to worship God, especially when they do not allow us to think and express our own thoughts, but instead dictate what we are to read, think, say, and do. This is not the freedom of Christ, and this is not how Jehovah wants to be worshiped (Gal 5:1).

    5. if jah wanted to be worshiped by clones, he would have made us all exactly the same without our unique and individual talents and abilities. These talents and abilities are going to waste in the organization and that's unscriptural (Ephesians 4:7-16).

    6. these things the organization does are considered by psychologists to be high control group/mind-control tactics.

    7. suggested they read the subtle power of spiritual abuse, crisis of conscience, and in search of christian freedom.

    8. quoted section from subtle power of spiritual abuse about misplaced loyalty, "we alone are right" mentality, scare tactics, humiliation.

    9. pointed out the wts accepts christ as their savior, but on their terms by making up their own terms (rules and regulations).

    10. showed scriptures regarding those who depart were for those who left christianity to go back to the jewish system or pagan beliefs, or wicked behavior. does not apply to someone who leaves a christian organization but still believes in christ.

1 Cor 5:9-13 wicked behavior of fornication, greedy, idolater, reviler, drunkard, extortioner.

2 John 7-11 persons not confessing jesus christ as coming in the flesh is the antichrist. everyone not remaining in the teaching of the christ does not have God. He that does remain in this teaching has both the Father and the Son.

1 John 2:18, 19 antichrists - those that left christ.

    11. wts misinterprets scriptures - see above & below

    12. wts uses Matthew 24:36-51 to take power to control and manipulate people. Faithful and discreet slave is not what wts teaches, but instead a parable to teach that each christian will be judged as faithful or not. context of parable is "when Jesus comes with power and great glory and he sends forth his angles to gather his chosen ones together from the four winds, from one extremity of the heavens to their other extremity. (vs 30-31) this is the time when christians will be judged by how they performed their tasks as christians and they either receive a reward or punishment (vs 45-51).

    13. wts hypocritical - they have witnesses tell people they talk to that they should open themselves up to new info and be willing to verify and/or scrutinize their beliefs, but they actually teach the witnesses themselves to refrain from reading anything from anyone else that may differ from what the society teaches. the "truth" should stand up to scrutiny. If they're not willing to allow any comparison, they're hiding something. we have found out the wts has been hidding many things just as many people today are finding out many hidden things about other christian organizations. the wts is no different.

    14. now that we have distanced ourselves from the rulership of the wts we feel an enormous burden has been lifted off of us and the truth as indeed set us free from the misguided control of men. this is the freedom of christ.

    15. wts has misrepresented God's gift of grace (Ephesians 2:4-10) calling it undeserved kindness.

    16. each person will be judged by their heart condition, doesn't have anything to do with having membership with any of mans religious organizations.

    Bet they won't write back!!!!
