What possessed Trescothick to put the Ozzies in first? Surely in a day/night match you want to bat if it's a scorcher of a day and let the other team sweat it out in the field. Bad decision but those Ozzies are looking more like World Champions.

    yup twas a strange decision

but i still think the target was gettable..england needed bout 100 from last 7 overs but had last 2 men in..had anyone of the batsmen been there they would prolly have needed bout 70 from the last 7 at 10 an over...perfectly possible for peterson..flintoff or a couple of others

i still dont think the ozzies look invincible though...(man i hope that doesnt come back to haunt me)

Australia beats England by 57 runs

    07:43 AEST Fri Jun 24 2005 AAP

Australia has its swagger back thanks to an awesome performance with the ball and in the field in their 57-run win over England in the tri-series cricket match at the Riverside Ground.

Brett Lee made a brilliant return from injury and Glenn McGrath bowled beautifully as Australia won its first match of the tri-series to overtake Bangladesh on the table and put its Ashes tour back on track after four straight losses.

Chasing 267 to win, England finished on 9-209.

Allrounder Andrew Symonds also got back into his teammates' good books after serving a two-match suspension for drinking into the early hours before last Saturday's loss to Bangladesh.

Man-of-the-match Symonds top scored with 73 from 81 balls in Australia's total of 5-266, and with Damien Martyn (68 not out) put on 142 for the fourth wicket.

Lee and McGrath ensured England was never a chance of reaching the target by restricting the home side to 3-17 after 10 overs with lethal spells of accurate fast bowling.

Lee, who missed last weekend's losses because of shoulder soreness, conceded one run off the bat in his first four overs and claimed England's first wicket, bowling Andrew Strauss for three.

When McGrath dismissed acting England captain Marcus Trescothick and Paul Collingwood for ducks, the home side had lost 3-2 in six balls and the run-chase became a mountain.

Andrew Flintoff (44) and Vikram Solanki (34) steadied with a 79-run stand, but they too departed to catches within three overs and England's chances were finally gone when Kevin Pietersen (19) holed out off Symonds' bowling.

Lee finished with 2-27, McGrath took 2-31 and left-arm wrist spinner Brad Hogg claimed 2-19.

Trescothick led England in place of Michael Vaughan, who had a groin strain.

No.10 Darren Gough top scored for the home team with a career-best 46 not out.

Aussies tempted to jump ship for Ashes

    05:51 AEST Fri Jun 24 2005 AAP

An English supermarket chain is offering Australian expats with dual British citizenship a chance to jump ship in time for the Ashes series.

Supermarket and clothing store ASDA will give dual passport holders a free England cricket shirt - but at a compromising price.

Australians who take their old Australian passport and their new British document to an ASDA store and recite the first verse of God Save the Queen will be given a shirt.

"We thought we'd give Aussie ex pats the chance to save face and go the whole hog when it comes to British citizenship," said Tony Page from ASDA.

"They can now wear the strip of the winning team."

Australia has started its tour in chaotic style, losing four games in a row including to Bangladesh and England in the opening two matches of the triangular one-day series.

The five-match Test series starts on July 21.

but 'not' televising the tests because you are considered unbeatable is just too arrogant

I think it was more a commercial issue... the price the rightsholders wanted was higher than the gain the TV stations thought they'd get from a one sided contest played in the middle of the night (our time)...

But I see a commercial station has found the moolah to broardcast the big one.... and it starts in one hour!!!!

    AUSTRALIA v BANGLADESH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now... will the Bangladeshies show us all how the game's played (again!)??? Could Bangladesh become a cricket based economy with another win??

Or will Aust be the first side to score 400???

    The answers will come soon!!!

    LOL, Max
