I think Jackson during his trial didn't know what to think, and was willing to go anywhere if he thought it might be bring him inner peace.

If MJ did "repent" and go back to the J-Dubs the Org would have a feild day using him as a 'poster boy'.
If he ever were re-instated, for how many minutes would the JWs be holding him up as a trophy before they'd begin to get real nervous every single time he went to open his mouth or the front gates to Neverland? JWs are so completely into impression management, that I think they are secretly relieved he's no longer "officially" one of them. He's like an unguided missile.
