I hear these random, dogmatic numbers all the time...

Noah preached for 70, 90, or now it's 120 years...

Noah worked 40, no 70 years on his Ark...

Even as a Dub I wondered where these wacky numbers come from... says who?

Help me out please and give me examples that you've noticed of unverifiable numbers!

any time you read the words "likely" or "no doubt" "apparantly" "undoubtably" in the watchtower- RUN!

Do a search for those words in the WTLib CD. I bet you'd find a lot of those types of time frames.

    *** w03 5/15 p. 6 Noah’s Log—Does It Have Meaning for Us? ***

Cyrus’ proclamation for the release of the Jews from exile was made “in the first year of Cyrus the king of Persia,” likely in the year 538 B.C.E. or early in 537 B.C.E.

Take a quick read of Genesis chapters 6 and 7, and the real answer is obvious - 0 years. There is no mention of Noah preaching except for 2 Peter 2:5, which simply calls him a "preacher of righteousness".

    *** w04 8/1 p. 11 Jehovah Reveals His Glory to Humble Ones ***

This humble man, who spent 40 years as a lowly shepherd, likely much of it on the Arabian Peninsula, was highly favored by the Creator in many ways.

Why? What possible reason do they have for the words in bold? Is it to expand their authority? "look folk, we are telling you exactly where Moses spent a great deal of his 40 years as a lowly shepherd, Dont deny it or you are an apostate, which is likely worse than a child molester or murderer"

Well how about what's going on right here on JWD? They're trying to say this is my 1000th post, but I think it's just a conspiracy to make me look like a big apostate or something!

    That's it?

I was so damn gullible... after the cardinal three "truths" (soul, hell, trinity)... I just sorta gave them the benefit of the doubt...

    NEVER AGAIN!!!

40 is another one. David rules for forty yrs, solomon ruled 40, it rained 40 days and nights. The chronologies in luke and elsewhere are jiggered to make up a certain number of people in the family trees, leaving out some or whatever. Some people get into gematria to try to make sense of the bible like that.

How about the 'creative days' being 7000 years each - total of 49,000 for the week [ not ended yet by wt stds].

Or the 6000 years of man's existence ending in 1874[5] - then later in 1975?
