Honestly, do you think that JW's really like going to 3 or 4day assemblies?

Nope. The worst one I can remember was the one in the 1980s in Philadelphia. What misery! Almost 100 degree heat! The small group I was with decided to come back a day early (Sunday). Let me tell you, we had had it!!! I got absolutely nothing out of that assembly except we had fun dining out. LOL

In later years Yankee Stadium proved to be no prize either. Every year it got more and more crowded. And there was no way I would sit in the sun. One thing that got me angry was when I volunteered for food service and got there early. When we finally went to go to our seats our stuff had been moved! Goddamn animals. That was it for volunteering!

When you're a repressed teenager, attending ANY assembly is a joyous occasion. How often did you attend other KH's? Me? Not many. The DC's and CA's were meat markets for anyone that was single. If someone tells you any differently, they are lying. I think I looked forward to the assemblies as a vacation of sorts. Walk the halls zooming for sisters and using bino's to scour the seats pretending you are trying to see the stage. Fun times!

    Welllllll,

Some do for the social opportunities; girls to meet boys, boys to meet girls. When there is no one in your congregation and you don't want to be an old maid, how else do you meet new people, unless you take a yearly trek to Bethel.

If you stay at a place with an indoor pool, the kids swim while a young teenage sister watches them, and mom and dad play cards and drink margaritas, old-fashioneds, martinis, scotch, beer with their buddies. So much that they drag into the session the next morning.

Others go out to eat with friends from around the circuit/district and also drink and make merry; others go out to dance clubs afterwards.

For some it is a way to party anonymously, at least more than the little towns they come from.

It's a way for the sisters to show off their new clothes for the brothers to show off their "privileges" by giving a talk, being in a demonstration (reinactment), or being in the drama.

That happened to me once and I was livid. I had the perfect aisle "shade" seats on the Plaza level lined right up with the front of the stage at then Jack Murphy Stadium(in San Diego). When I was done making hoagies, I came back and my books and stuff were a few rows down in the aisle on the steps! The sister who was in my spot had a very arrogant look to her. I thought back then that she was probably df'd or inactive and that is why she came across as having a bad attitude.

Oh, and one more thing! Did other congs make announcements at the KH just before the DC telling the bros what time the main gates would open and what they were not supposed to do? Without fail, in San Diego, when the gates would open at 7 am, it was like watching the Oklahoma Land Rush. The pubs were told NOT TO RUN to find seats. But everyone would run anyways to the best sections while lugging their bookbags, umbrellas, etc. Heh, some even walked superfast without bending their knees so they weren't officially "running." What was really funny was that the congregations would read a letter which said that no seats were to be reserved prior to 7 am. But sure enough, if you walked to the good sections, there were books and blankets draped all over the place - most likely from the workers that got there even earlier. I guess those announcements never applied to them...

Water under the bridge. That was one of those instances where it sticks in your mind your entire life and you realize that JW's are not the happy, caring, and considerate individuals that they make themselves out to be.

we were always poor.. so the DC was the only summer vacation we got. so yeah i looked forward to them. my poor parents.. 7 kids, one motel room or one tent.. some vacation lol

the assemblies are so regimented the past few years they just arent worth the trouble.. all the talks are in later issues of the magazines , so if you dont go you dont miss anything. you dont have time to associate or meet anyone. the attendants all look like they need a stiff drink or an enema. not the spiritual paradise they used to be advertised as.
