Twisted! Guess it's all about the legal liability. They force you to do out on service (by the pressure that is put on you), then deny you if anything bad happens while you're out there.
In one of my now nearly continuous attempts to get my wife to quit the JWs, I said to her 'you know, if you join them for real you will have to go out door to door just like the rest of them'. She said no, she didn't want to do that and had been told that was ok, she could just do "phone field work". Anybody heard of, or have knowledge of the JWs doing some sort of telemarketing style proselytizing?
You should be OK - although fading completely [change address and just stop going] would seem to be the next step.
