I was going to say the opposite! I hate it when they say, "the scripture reads" instead of "it says".

"Please turn to Galations 5:10. And it reads..." followed by scripture being read allowed.

That and "as it were" really grate on my nerves.

I'm ashamed to say that i use "as it were" extensively in normal conversation. I also often say "as well as" and "in so doing"... i first noticed this 'affliction' when my boyfriend (who's not english) once asked me to correct his résumé. I took out all the 'and's and replaced them subconsciously with 'as well as'... he came back to me and told me off for ruining his CV...

HOW ungrateful the Isrealites were for Jehovah's continuing undeserved kindness on their part; HOW sad it would be, if suchlike ones were to draw away from serving jehovah; HOW grateful we are that Jehovah's earthly organisation has seen fit to provide us with food at the proper time

As well as using "how" when its not a question, i also hate the expressions, "for their part" and "to see fit"... and...... oh bloody hell, did i just say "as well as" again?

"like that of" as in:

faith, like that of Abraham
love, like that of a parent for their child
tender care, like that of a shepherd for his sheep

and "greater" or "antitypical"as in:

Jesus, the Greater Moses
Jehovah, the Greater Abraham
Jehovah's earthly organisation, the antitypical Ark of Noah's day
Jesus, the antitypical Maher... Malalash... Mashelashbash... oh f**k it!.... Mahershalalhashbaz
