My biggest question is what determines what a person feels inside his being. Is it part of being human from his DNA? Is it developed from his association from youth? Is it a trained response to feel compassion for other humans?
hey Ken,
i would say that it is a combination of both. our genetic inheritance is such that as children, we are easily influenced by our elders. if we live in an environment that is ethical, then ethics and morals are learned. this has always been for the benefit of the tribe. a sort of insurance policy that allows the older citizens to maintain the status quo for all. in later times, people started justifying morals by assigning origin of them to a higher power, but this was really just a power grab.
no doubt humans are capable of meaningless horror. but at the same time, ethical beauty, stemming from our ability to think. so a combination of nature and nurture.
