You go girl!!!
I LOVE belly button piercings. If I had the belly for it you better believe mine would be done. My sister has hers done and it's the cutest thing ever.

I got my navel pierced about 9 years ago, before it was the craze. Like others, it was a total act of rebellion. My parents would have freaked. I also did it because if I didn't like it I could just take it out. But I love it! I change out my navel jewelry like I do my earrings. Last summer I finally got the courage to get a tattoo. It's totally for me - nothing to show off. A small blue kanji symbol that means "born again into a life of vitality". It's on my tailbone. You can't see it at all, even if I wear a thong.

Hey Billygoat! How long did your navel take to heal? I was told 6 months to 2 years! I want to trade my barbell for a ring when it heals. I was happy to see all the different colored balls and jewels I can screw on to my barbell! I had no idea. I'll pick up a jewel or two before I go camping with my family (big brother will be shocked I think) and Venice's on the 11th. Plus it really sets me apart from all the other moms at preschool.
What fun! Thanks for all your replys. I love the rebellion here.

I'm fully in favor of anyone who wants to get a piercing (or a tattoo).
I'm also dead set against the idea personally. Yup, a contrary opinion has reared its head in this thread. Shoot me.
I like the human body, and see nothing wrong with it. Painting it, decorating it, punching holes in it -- can't understand the impulse to do any of that, but I admit I'm so totally in the minority over this issue as to mostly keep my mouth shut over it. Thanks for indulging me here.
Piercing is not rebellion, but conformity to the new non-conformity. It's like during the hippie era when all the teens started growing their hair to "rebel", but really were just conforming to each other. You want to rebel? Do something that no one is doing. If you can get it in a shop, it's already been co-opted by the system, and been marketed to you in non-standard ways.
Now, if you can resist this marketing, and genuinely just like piercing for your own taste, and not because it's the new trendy thing, go for it! I won't disagree with anyone's personal tastes, for their's no arguing taste. Enjoy your piercings, or your tattoos. If I see them, I will note them, and enjoy seeing them. But I won't consider it for myself. That's my taste.
Ditto, Seeker.
AAWWWW Mom. How could you agree with that? Just kidding. I don't see it as a rebellion in this society, but a rebellion against the borg. Not allowed there, happening here.
And Ven, I don't plan on hiding it! I'm putting on a jewel and showing it off. Woohoo!
Princess
Not for you, honey. I mean for me. You have the body for it, and I simply do not. That's all. (if it wasn't marketed, would you ever consider doing it?) It's just an opinion, not a religion.
Marketing rules the world. If there were no eBay, would I have so many dishes?
Ven, what are you getting pierced?
