What kills me is that even though the autopsy on Terri Shiavo showed her brain to have shrunk to half of it's normal size, proving that there was absolutely no chance of her ever to recover, the brain-dead George & Jeb Bush still "stand by their decision" when they tried to force this poor girl to live another 20 years as a blind vegetable.

Not everybody in NY has bad grammar. What you witnessed is most common among certain groups of young people. Unfortunately, some of them think it is cool not to speak properly.
Over the years, the education has been watered down. Try comparing it to an instant cake make versus one made from scratch. The results can be heard all around.
My pet peeve is seeing misspelled words on signs. -
