Within one minute JW with trolley directs me to JW.org

Hey Steve2 I also came across JWs this past weekend in 'Metropolitan Witnessing'.   It happened to be at a mall.  I was about 50 feet away when I came across a card table that had literature displayed with two people sitting managing it. At first glance I thought they were selling vacation packages or cruise ship packages.  Then I thought....'okay they're a green peace organization' having something to do with preserving the environment.  Through a process of elimination it finally dawned on me that they were JWs!

No I didn't approach them to say "Hi"!   I wasn't about to ruin my fun-day with JWs inviting me to visit their JW.org website.

But what amazed me more than anything is how unfruitful, unproductive, ineffective this form of Bible Education is!  These people were like bumps-on-a-log.  It was totally a waste of time.  No body shopping or visiting the mall were giving these JWs the time of day!

I couldn't help but think of Jesus words at Mat 21:19:  'He (Jesus) caught sight of a fig tree by the road and went to it, but he found nothing on it except leaves, and he said to it:  "Let no fruit come from you ever again."  And the fig tree withered instantly.'

Likewise with this Metropolitan Witnessing program like many other ventures that the WT has tried;  I look forward to the day when this 'card table witnessing' withers away.....instantly!

    Great comment Respectful_observer!

So much for an urgent life-saving work!!! 99.9% could die unless the "truth" gets to them...but they wont put any effort into actually engaging people!?

I think the GB want them to direct people to JW.Borg because they don't want anyone discussing their beliefs the way we had to.

What would they do with the overlapping generations nonsense if they tried to explain when the paradise is coming? Or if someone raised the blood issue what would they answer now?

They can't let people waffle through teachings that are as clear as mud. They would quickly realise how stupid they are for one thing and no one would be converted.

    How sad.

The peak of my involvement was in the mid 90s and I already felt back then that a changing of the guard had taken place.

I was in the salvation business.  I believed every word of what they taught and approached field service with that mindset.  Yet probably 80 percent of the publishers were there just to count their time.

It was discouraging, but I got the impression that the battle had already been fought and the time counters had won.  I remember old-timers who spoke of the not-so-distant past when every publisher was expected to explain the major doctrines plainly using only the Bible.

By the time I left, roughly ten years later, the percentage of time-counters had gone up to 90 percent or more and the old-timers rarely brought up those stories anymore.

By the reports I read here, it seems like are few if any JWs in the salvation business business anymore and who can blame them?  How can you remain zealous when the doctrine you supposedly believe no longer possesses any basic internal coherence?

    Hey steve2

For a religion that's been preaching doom forever, this trolley business is definitely not making sense. But then does anything?

just as u said the people push carting this nonsense are usually genuinely nice. Such a shame they're doing this at the whim and fancy of the eight (or is it 12 now?) men sitting on their butts and making home videos. (For my mum to sit and aww over 😞😒

I agree. I believe we are seeing a trend in the org away from discussing and focusing on doctrine. The great leaders know that discussing doctrine can bring about too many problems for them.

    Right on SGFP!

I notice that the attention headers on the trolleys are on relatively innocuous topics like "Is the Bible Really God's Word?" and Not on warnings about how near the end is - which is kind of puzzling because from the organization's perspective, the end IS that much closer as time passes.

On the other hand, it's also a no-brainer that the organization is now trying to convey to the public a nice, balanced healthy, non-cult-like outlook.  Were they to come with more blatant warnings about the nearness of the end, it would provoke recognition that the organization has been banging on about the end since the 1870s - and you'd need an organ grinder's monkey to distract the public from the its healthy skepticism.
