I have a whole new perspective on patriotism. While I don't always agree with what this country does, I love living here and will proudly salute our flag.

OK I'll bite. Come on then LT, let's have a sketch from you, without cheating and looking it up, of the correct way of drawing the union flag, with correct colours and correct sizes of gap. And no wimping out by saying that your flag is the scottish flag. I want the union flag, gaps and colours correct.

ig (no I don't know how to draw it properly myself before you ask)

I have to admit and I agree, capitalistic nations are the best to live in. I certainly wouldn't want to be starving in Africa or live under some idiot tyrant...with my mouth I'd be dead. But I certainly won't bow down to a nation and it's leaders / politicians simply because they say I should. The western world hasn't made miracles yet so as to get my devotion, propaganda does exist and they use it to make themselves look better than what they really are.

In the western world, freedom is only that you get a better position as a slave than the rest of the world. But we still remain slaves, financial slaves in my opinion, you have to buy their products, sometimes it is law to buy their products.

Why are you proud then? What did you do yourself to make you proud for the country?

I do agree here with foreword that it is better to live in a semi-democratie then under a idiot dictator. It is not bad to live in a poor country as long as you have the money.... in my opinion it does not matter to much which (western) county. I do ot think that belgium is any better or worse then for example germany, france or usa. Danny

OK yall just a warning Im Probably fixin to piss a whole lot of people off but I cant just read this and not speak up. AS many of you know my husband is a soldier in the United States Air Force. I am extremly proud of him and the job he does for this country. I think our freedom should be celebrated. Get over it if you dont like it. I spent the better part of my life so far being told that its wrong to be patriotic and now that Im free to think for myself I have decided that I do love this country I am proud to be American and will tell anyone who dosnt like it to kiss my butt.

It never ceases to suprise me how little people know about their own flags, and who are scared to nail their colours to the mast, in case it shows them up

The Canadian flag has a red maple leaf on top of a red center area. There are two red bars, one on the left and one on the right. It was invented and chosen by bureaucrats back in the '60s.

Let's see, the Union Jack: Crosses of Sts. George, Andrew, and Patrick combined and something thrown in for the Welsh, does that sound correct? No idea how to draw it.

Oh yeah, its the fourth of July. Never noticed, I was too busy starting my new job.

Do americans force children to stand and salute the flag? If they don't force them, does the child who doesn't salute get called names?

He he, you do not piss me off. I like your reply. I think it is nessesary to have soldiers etc. And he is probably doing a good job. O, and yes I do not mind celebrating your freedom. That is quite normal.

But why you say 'I am proud to be american". In what way is your country better then for example my country?
