Rumours would circulate as people started speculating as to why the certain people were df'd. All of a sudden their credibility is shot, no one will believe a word they would say. JW's are sheep- they follow and do as they are told. If they are told their mum/dad/brother/sister/son/daughter etc are 'bad association' they they will treat them accordingly. Its not their decision if they want to remain a JW.

Yeah what's with that? Not to hijack a thread but a JW can commit all sorts of crimes i.e. pedophilia and they can be forgiven. Once you are labeled as an apostate thats it, even if you were to say get reinstated you would never be trusted again... EVER. However its ok to wifeswap, screw around, cheat on taxes, rape children. What a messed up "religion"

To answer the thread's question I think that they could still do it by cleverly labeling them as apostates in bethel morning (men) worship at the breakfast table then subsequent articles in the WT and KM.

Back in 1980 they didn't have the internet, and so what happened back then and what the Governing Body able to get away with through lies, and slander back then, I don't think they would have the same out come today.

Also added to the fact that the repercussions of that purge in the organization is still having its negative effects on the reputation of the Governing Body to this day, thanks to the internet which is playing a very crucial role.

If there ever was a purge in the future, of several senior members of the Bethel family, the internet would play a key role in alerting many in and outside bethel of the cruel sociopathic nature of the Governing Body which is already becoming very appearent, with out such a shake up.

The authority of the Governing Body while maintained by the sword of disfellowshipping is slipping rapidly because the long promised "new system" has not arrived and people at the meetings are bored to death. the Governing Body has been like the little boy who kept crying "wolf"!!! Eventually nobody takes them seriously (even though they will not express this openly for fear of the cruelty it may unleash apon them) many just make beleive they take it seriously and talk the party line bs.

I think the majority at the senior level that reside at bethel already have a hatred for the GB, but play along with them because they are trapped and don't want to be kicked out into the street at this point in time, where as back in 1980 most still beleived in the bull shit, that's where the big difference is between then and now.

I think a purge brought on by the Governing Body, especially if it envolved mistreatment of its elderly or senior members thier at bethel would spark a fire that the Governing Body would not able to put out, for it would be broadcasted all over the internet to which a large portion at bethel have access to.

You can pretty much know what they will do based on a local congregation's reaction. Congregations that have stood up have been dissolved and individuals DF'd. Elders who have stood up have been removed as elders and sent to another congregation. Rank and file members who stand up are labeled as bad spiritually. Bethelites know this so don't stand up to contradict the WTS.

I have seen it over and over. Even if the WTS is wrong, any individual JW is wrong to try and correct it; they must let God do it.

I was a 23 year old aux pioneer in 1980 living in rural New Hampshire usa when the bethel purge went down.

My Impressions:A few glory seeking wanna be boss rebels tried a coup and even tried to apostasize the Kingdom ministry monthly with their emboldened sedition.It was firmly put down by Jehovah.

How dare they!Yes this was pre-internet and the only other apostate i heard about was Davd Reed also a throughly demented apostate piece of bleep.

I agree some of these guys on the GB can't even wipe the $hit from thier a$$, and yet everybody at bethel is afraid of them. I guess that's what keeps some of these guy living 90+ years.

That's why I am always suspecting that there is something else hiding behind them, perhaps Blondie can tell us who are the share holders of this business and what we know about the control the can exert over it.
