This is good. And I would guess the ACLU can't prevent it, as they are convicted and have given up some of their rights. :)
I think most sex offenders should be branded on their face, but that's just me ...

The problem with the sex offender registry is that is uses a VERY broad definition of 'sex offender'. A college student could get drunk and flash a group of minors and be a 'sex offender'. Or an 18 yr old with a 15 yr old boyfiend/girlfriend could get the label.

IG, all of the above mentioned incidents are considered crimes, and most people would know better, so with that in mind keep your pants on and don't date jail bait, it's that simple.

I agree with dragonlady. The laws can still use improvement, but they are finally starting to get somewhere. These ppl are sick and destroy so many lives in so many ways hopefully something like this will make them think twice, but I doubt it at least parents will know who is in their neighborhood.

Yes I know, but its not exactly the same caliber as that dude that kidnapped and murdered the kid in Fla. That the type these registries are supposed to protect people against, not someone who made an unwise choice at age 18. But I guess it's easier to be hysterical and make the kid that streaked the college campus be viewed as a perv the rest of their life.

What if YOU resemble the bad picture printed in a news paper?
Your neighbours turn against you, then you are hounded, humiliated and possibly arson-attacked for something others now think you have done.
I read of a case where an innocent man only shared the name of a paedo, and his life became such hell after his name was published he committed suicide.
If these sex offenders know their names wil be published wherever they go, then the whole paedo community will close ranks and protect each other making it even harder to bring the now anonymous offenders to justice. No one will know where they are.
The monitoring of the internet has just made these ones resort to good old paper and envelopes to share their filth, because mail cannot be opened and monitored.
Of course we could go the way of muslim countries and when they are caught offer them the choice of being pulled into the air in a noose by a crane, or having a wall pulled down over them.
One good thing about JWs message: millions of paedos now living will die.

Interesting point, IronGland.
It doesn't seem as though it would cost the state much to differentiate high-risk offenders (Fla. kidnapper/murderer) from low risk offenders (college campus streaker).

there could be some improvements on the current system , but you gota understand, this is new attempts to keep the public safe. most of the sex offender registry laws come from parents of dead children FIGHTING to get the registry set up. if they could have logged onto the internet and checked their own neighborhoods out and found out who was living near them , their kids might still be alive.. at the least they would have had the option to move or be more alert to the dangers surrounding their children.
i'm sure as time goes by the registry WILL evolve to where you can tell the difference between a teenager who had a teenage girlfriend or boyfriend that was underage, and a pedophile that preys on young children. till then though, due to the efforts of the parents of murdered and violated kids, and the efforts of lawmakers that work with them, we have SOMETHING available to help us keep our kids safe.
personally, i think that the gov't is going to have to re open insane asylums and start putting dangerous pedophiles away for life . medication, therapy, public awareness, just doesnt protect enough kids.
