lol... it's a form of mint. From what the vet told me, it stimulates cats as something of an aphrodisiac...

FMZ, nope nothing communicable or life threatening, just a big PITA! Kitty thanks you for the cute artwork,,,, paws on the keyboard.

loosie, lol, I can picture it .... hahaha,, ears back flat, head rolling, too cute. :)

jeannie, so your Johnny Cat was a stoner, huh? Good ole Johnny Cat, he knew where it was AT... RIP beautiful kitty!

GBL, as jeannie says, a member of the mint family, not to be confused with 'cat mint' or 'cat grass', they are not as effective, and it's much easier to grow than basil! hehe, they love the fresh stuff, just pick a few leaves a day, crush them slightly .... kitty snack extraordinaire. :)

Double Edge, I should have said 'not legal' instead of 'wrong', it is an immoral law, imho.

Well, now she is playing with my 'egg', it's a small percussion instrument (yes, an egg) that makes noise when you shake it. lmao! go kitty, go!

Ah, the simple pleasures of life ...

Yeah, I used to get my cats all stoned up on the nip. I even grew my own for a while. I really enjoyed buying them toys and putting the toys in the cat nip container. But that was BC (before children). Having kids really changed my attitude toward the felines. Kids and the fact that my one cat was possesed and took every opportunity to piss on my belongings or even spray directly on me. It didnt take long for me to get fed up with that.

I tried to grow catnip and cat mint. My kitties like both so much that the pulled the plant out of ground. Hard to get it to grow that way.

lrg, Yes, post some piccies, please! Enjoy your nip. ;)

Darth, ugh, never had that problem myself, tho my one cat did pee in the closet when she felt threatened and would return to the spot till I completely rid it of the traces. hmm, pets & kids are usually a good mix, dunno why you would say that about BC, or is that when the cat started his nasty habits (?).

loosie,,, lol! yes, I have 'been there'. Had to put the nip plant in a 'safe' location ... but my cat wouldn't even look at the cat grass,,, fussy little sweetie that she was! RIP Squealer.

talesin, I think that my cat definatly started to change his attitude around the time that my first son was born. We had two at the time and they were littermates. One cat was like my wifes baby untill the real deal came along. Then he started to mark his territory. Here, there, every where, and any where. This cat even pissed on my bed while my wife and I were sleeping in it.

The straw that broke the camel's back was when I bought a brand new queen size bed, sheets, matress, and comforter After spending every spare cent I had on these items the cat decides to piss all over them. When I discovered what he had done I got rid of him. I couldnt take him any more.

His litter mate was cool though. He was a good cat and I did enjoy him untill he ran away.

My cats too couldn't refrain from eating the home grown. I put a milk crate over them to prevent them from destroying the plant prematurely.

I had a cat who was unnaturally attached to me, and would get all panicked when I would leave for work (he'd been horribly abused his whole life before I liberated him. I believe that's why he clung to me more than would be considered normal.) The vet wanted me to put him on Valium to calm him, but I gave him catnip instead, with the vet's approval. Kitty was very mellow and happy when I left for work, and it was all natural and organic, too!
