Can't buy god idea! What about Aliens?

Okay, so I do not believe in Jesus. Yet I do wonder about life on other planets and see that as much more likely. Why? Well there are species on this planet we have not yet found of insects, etc. Why then could it not be possible that in the whole universe, there is a million other species we never heard of. We are a tiny species, on a small sand pebble of a world in some far corner of space with millions of stars, that we can see, and millions of more stars we can not see. So why not? Seems more likely to me. What I have a hard time with, is whether or not to believe they have come to our planet or not. Maybe they spawned life here and rule in some unseen way. Maybe they are responsible for the legends of gods, or maybe they wonder if we exist as much as we wonder if they do, and do not have enough tech to get far enough to see us. I know I find things like SETI interesting, as it makes sense to listen for radio waves of alien life. I like movies like Independence Day and War of the Worlds, as I think we might want to rethink the excitement of meeting a species that is that much more advanced then us ... just ask the American Indians how they felt when those advanced Europeans showed up! Anyway, thinking about this, I have some fun questions.

    1. How likely do you think it is that life exist away from this planet.

    2. Do you believe they visit this world (the Greys, Roswell crash, Area 51, etc).

    3. If they did make themselves known, what would the most important question be for you.

... just thought it would be an interesting topic with former Witnesses. Personally, for me the answer to number three would be, "do you believe in a higher being, aka god, and I would be interested to learn what they felt that beings name was?" Because after all, shouldn't it be Jehovah or Jesus? If not, the Bible has some explaining to do. I would laugh if they responded Zeus though.

I think ET would have beter things to do than anal probe hicks.

Aliens are possible, but what makes some people think that they'd be more advanced than we would be? Most people assume so.

Looked into it, didn't fit. Interesting history to it though. Although, what makes them any more wrong then the rest.

but what makes some people think that they'd be more advanced than we would be?

We had a hard time getting a man on the moon (some say we didn't). If they can get here and are that advanced, well, I would say there a little ahead of us or maybe they just found that they are really good at one thing and kept with it until they got it right. Never know!

Why not ETs? It makes as much sense as anything. Heck, I have an easier time considering that we were planted by ETs than I do thinking that dog or evolution makes sense.

In the long run, though, does it really matter? We're here, we're queer, and ... oops! wrong slogan ... LOL! Okay, so we're here now, let's make the best of it and live in the moment. (my philosophy)

just like ghosts, there is no credible evidence for aliens a la little greem men in saucers.

but there are probabilities. like carl sagan said in Contact: If we really are all alone out there, it's seems like an aweful waste of space.

but right now, all we have are probabilities. see this awesome thread by SNG, and the discussion he gets into with Terry (where is Terry anyways?):

    1. How likely do you think it is that life exist away from this planet.

IMO, quite likely, when you consider the number of galaxies, stars, planets around those stars, and the prevalence of hydrogen in the universe. the probability of intelligent life is obviously less that the probability of microscopic life.

    2. Do you believe they visit this world (the Greys, Roswell crash, Area 51, etc).

no. but if they have, we have not detected them at all.

    3. If they did make themselves known, what would the most important question be for you.

"what religion have you come half way across the galaxy to proseletize to me?" seriously. why else would an alien race make such a long trip, just to find other life, when their goal should be just to preserve their own as close to their home as possible.

but if they were here just out of scientific curiousity, i would ask them how they did it. and then i would start discussing mathematics and evolution with them. it's the only two concievable subjects that i could fathom we would both understand.
