I'm not sure about this, but I think Muslims aren't supposed to eat it either. When I had my oldest son, I shared a hospital room with a Muslim lady who was quite exercised about "porcupine balls" (meat balls usually made with ground beef and rice) being on the menu. She had to make sure that pork wasn't used in making them.

Muslims and Jews don't eat pork.
Some 7th day Adventists are vegetarians by religious belief (that would leave out pork). (but they also follow the Jewish dietary law and don't eat pork)
HinduismPeople who practise the Hindu religion don't eat meat from animals. -

The Worldwide Church of God (WWCOG) might have also followed the Jewish dietary laws not eating port.
Seventh Day Baptists do not eat pork.

I have a friend who grew up in the WWCoG and then became a JW a few years ago (I guess she's just a natural, co-dependant follower). Her family are still WWCoG, however they are split because some of the WWCoG group had a big split back in the (I think?) 70's.
Her mother and father remained in the original group and her sister and her family went to one of the splinter groups. The sister won't eat pork and follows a lot of the old Jewish customs -- feast of tabernacles, days of unleavened bread and such (I think they want to be Jews... ). Her parents would eat pork although not a lot of it, so pork seems to be a divided issue as is some seafood.
The nice thing about it (seemingly different from JW families) is that they get along extremely well and other than observing different holy days and a couple of dietary exceptions their familial relationship is as solid as can be.

carla,
I am a self professed leader of a new cult!
For my followers, its a consciense matter, whether they eat pork or not.
Mrs SteveNYC is currently on a diet, and as such she doesn't eat pork.
A have a very limited following, so if anyone else wants to join let me know. My wife is currently sleeping in bed, and therefore in full practice of my cult.
steve (Leader and Founder and the cult know as ' The Sunday Horizontalists')

I wanna join the "Sunday Horizontalists"... it has a nice ring to it.
As cult leader, will you be providing our "food at the proper time" steveo, or do we have to get off our ass and go to the fridge?

Another new cult? Horizontal hey? must I sleep? I think my husband should join this one, he's much better suited to it. The reason I asked about the pork is cause I have a family member (in law) that wouldn't eat pork. I think he does now though and has no affiliation with any church. However, I may ask help of family members in trying to get husband out of jw. This relative would never tell anybody just what he belonged to. I'm not sure how to go about even talking to him as I have suspicions that it must have been somewhat cult like. To this day (20yrs later) he still has never mentioned his previous 'religion'. I can see he doesn't want to talk about it so I have never asked again. And his wife never told anyone either. Maybe she promised not to? It was when he was growing up before they knew each other. Worried about what his response to all of this may be. thanks for the info, carla

carla,
the Jews and Muslims are the obvious one.
I did a check the my list of cults who dont eat pork and theres a few as have already been mentioned in this topic. Hindu's don't eat beef in the north and are veggies in the south. Some branches of the adventists still carry the Abrahmic laws, and don't eat pork.
My gut feeling is its going to be and Abrahamic offshot. However, if his previous 'religion' was over twenty years ago, he could just be embarissed about some ex-hippy stuff he was into. Maybe just a veggie.
steve
As regards my cult, I think I'll post the rule book in another topic.
