    Richie,

    Hillary?

    Yes?

I am waiting for you to actually deal with the issues I raised in my post? Do you agree with them or not?

    damsel,

Richie ~ I agree with you! your weight is YOUR business.I know lots of "overweight" people that are wayyyyyy more healthy and fit then the skinny "norm".

Obesity costs the US an estimated $75 billion dollars per annum. It is the business of everybody who pays taxes or medical insurance to be concerned about the obesity issue.

Those with eating disorders that are triggered by psychological issues should seek the correct sort of help, which is available. I appreciate that these issues are emotive, and that is why we are best of dealing in facts and leaving knee-jerk reactions at the front door.

hilary ~ you are missing the point entirely. There is a huge difference between obese and overweight. I agree with you that obesity is an epidemic and does cost tax payers their hard earned money, however it is possible to be overweight and still be healthier then a slim person.

And yes, these issues are emotional. I would be equally upset if someone where to lecture me about my lifestyle and my health based on a picture that they saw, and give me unsolicted advice regarding my so called health issues!

    ok.

    Richie,

I am a big guy. I have been since birth. I was 12 lbs, 14.5 ozs. then. Now, I tip the scales at just over 300 lbs. However, I go to the gym for at leat 10 hours a week, and play sports with friends, and am VERY active. My immune system seems to be abnormally strong, and my blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol is all healthy.

That may all be true but you are a young man.

We're good so far. I'm 17. At birth, although I was considered an "obese" baby, I scored a perfect 10 on my APGAR test.

Carry that sort of weight around for another 15-20 years and you will have serious health issues.

really? How do you know this? Have you walked around in my body for 20 years? Cause I haven't.

I guarantee if you eat less you will drop 100lbs in a year and greatly increase the chances of seeing your grandchildren grow up.

you can't guarantee this. If I eat one less gummy bear, or one less spoonful of pudding, it won't drastically affect my weight. Why lose 100 pounds? Only roughly 75 pounds of my weight is fat, so to lose 100 would cost me a lot of muscle, considering I have to safely maintain at least about 10% body fat. I like my muscles, they help me deal with people who are full of themselves, like you.

Nobody is condemning overweight people, they are just recognizing that with obesity comes health issues.

wow, I believe some are. I recognize that excessive obesity can cause health problems. Science has proved this. I don't understand why people expect me to bow down to them for stating a well known fact. It's like interrupting a discussion about weather to say that snow is cold. Congratulations, you watch Discovery Health too.

At your age it is much easier to get in shape, and stay healthy.

I am in shape. I am healthy. i don't need 400 dollars of herbs a month, I don't go to the doctor every week. How many skinny people have cancer? They are in Shape, but they aren't healthy. I feel sorry for them, but I don't tactlessly tell them that their tumor is going to kill them. They could've avoided cancer, by not eating aspartame or smelling gasoline or smoking cigarettes. However, it's not my job or my RIGHT to tell them.

It gets very much harder as you grow older and your metabolism becomes more sluggish.

Oh really? Metabolisms slow down with age? Where'd you learn that? Reader's Digest?

Be smart and lose it now.

Why? So I'll be small and weak like others? So I can conform, and reassimilate into the crowd? So I don't die 5 years early?

    Best regards - HS

I don't think you have my best regards in mind. I think you just like to type. Really, you've said nothing inciteful or anything that concerns me. The only purpose you've served is to make me angry, making my already weak, lard-laden heart work even harder.

    Damsel,

My advice was not based on any picture I saw, it was based on Richie telling the whole on-line world that he weighs three hundred pounds and yet is healthy.

I told him that may be true at present, as he is a young man, but in 15-20 years time he will have severe health issues if he does not attend to his weight issues. The irony is that what I have explianed to Richie is exactly the same information a caring doctor would give him and he would get charged for it!

...my arguments are not centered on the difference between obesity and being overweight. Where did I mention this? How can I miss a point that I did not make?

    You already said that.

Not really, And if I want to hear this kind of crap, I'll carry my obese ass on up to the doctor's office, and let the insurance system pick up the tab... all but the co-pay that is.

    Richie,

I have read through your post. I have nothing to add or take away from my original post, in fact you seem to me to be agreeing with all I wrote. You may not like what I wrote, but you cannot dispute it.

As to a slowing metabolism as one gets older, yes this is a scientifically proven fact.

Deal with your anger issues Richie, they are not helping you at all.

And I do send my best regards - HS

Actually, I only backed you up on 2 things. My age, and the fact that obesity can lead to health complications.

Deal with your anger issues Richie, they are not helping you at all.

My anger issues are the same as my health issues - none of your business.

And I do send my best regards - HS
Not really. You won't even read what I said.

Sorry but I disagree with you, He is healthy, his levels are good and he exercises/works out often. If anything a "caring" doctor would inquire about what he eats not how much, and that is between Richie and his doctor.

What is ironic is you insisting on dispensing health advice to someone who flat out didn't want/ask for it.
