Were you ever the victim of serious crime such as physical assault, mugging, burglary, arson, big financial fraud, kidnapping, etc?

Someone pinched my stereo from my kitchen. I answered the door- some charity worker (they were genuine, I checked after) and some arsehole went in the back door and nicked my ghetto blaster. I was so angry. I reported it, but nothing was ever found.

When I was growing up we had several problems:
- People would break into our garage and steal tools and other items all the time. (No, the items were not "lost" - we would catch the thiefs in the act)
- Bikes were stolen
- Boat was stolen from our garage
- Truck was stolen from drive way
- House was broken into, damaged, and many items were stolen including my mom's wedding ring
- I was assaulted in school - had to file charges against kid
- My brother was assaulted in school - had to file charges against kid
I'm sure there are other things I'm forgetting about.

I got mugged when I was about 18, I was beaten up but not too badly, my friend who i was with at the time took the worst of it, she ended up in hospital for a couple of days.
We went to the police who knew who the muggers were due to the description we gave, but they couldn't do much as there was no real evidence and it would have been our word against theirs.

My still-involved-with-the-JWs-ex, was convicted of Threatening Conduct & Criminal Harassment.
He got a 30-day sentence and 1 year probation.

I was raped by a Sikh taxi driver in his late 40's on my way home when I was 18. He was kept locked up for a few months but never convicted after the trial.

I was a victim of attempted rape once by a coworker. I successfully fought him off, injured him pretty good. I think I eliminated the possibility of him <ahem> using that appendage, either permanently or at least for a while.
Was a victim of physical abuse by JW relatives. One of them is an elder now.

Sorry to hear that Crumpet, that must have been awful for you, but give yourself a pat on the back for being brave enough to report it.

(((((rebel8)))))) And well done! I hope that made him think twice about ever ever forcing himself on a woman again!
And why am I not surprised that a relative who abused you became an elder!
The important thing is we haven't let violent crime beat and subdue us!
