Victims of serious crime?

Short answer, No. Nothing really serious. I've never had a real gun pointed at me, I've never been physically attacked outside of school fights.

My parents house was broken into a couple of years ago. Even though I had moved out many years ago, the house was still "home" where I grew up. The breakin felt like a violation of some kind. Lucky for the kids that did it (that got caught later) that I didn't catch em in the act. I can only imagine what it must feel like to be a victim of a real serious crime.

Rape is a terrible crime that makes my blood boil for some reason. If I was to catch someone in the act of raping someone, I could see myself losing my cool and exacting a terrible vengeance on the attacker. Killing a rapist is doing society a favor.

I've had several things stolen from me:

My parents inform me that some possession was stolen from me when our house was broken into when I was 2.

From my teen years to now, saxophone (recovered fortunately), shoes, car radio, backpack containing college books and calculator, whihc was irresponsibly left in in view in the car in a rough neighborhood and a bicycle. Wife's car was stolen twice.

I've been fortunate to never face any violence, except a few school yard and playground fights as someone else mentioned. Having your stuff taken is a bit irritating, but I can imagine its not nearly as scary or infuriating as having someone threaten to kill or hurt you.

I had my flat broken into and my camera got stolen, also had passport stolen in Bulgaria and had to get into the trouble of going to police where no one spoke any English, and the embassy to obtain an emergency passport at $60, and then a proper new one at $130.

When I was 26 and my son was 3 a young man put a gun to my head at the train station down the street from my home in Philadelphia. I offered him my jewelry and all my money. He let me keep my jewelry and allowed me to take the $96.00 out of my wallet and hand it to him. He told me to count to 100 before I moved. The whole time this was going on he kept telling me not to worry he wasn't going to hurt me or my son....all I could think of was he was going to shoot me and my son would be standing on the train platform by himself.

Carol that's a very strange and somewhat kind thief, at least he let you keep your jewellery, perhaps he was really desperate for some money for drugs.

I once hired an office manager to handle all the finances and payroll while I worked away from the office. Within three months he had embezzeled over $70,000 from me. Caught on when he went on vacation. Gave him a real vacation via the criminal justice system. God helped too!

I had my wallet stolen right out of my purse at McDonalds in Manhattan. Serves me right for setting it on the floor. It had less than $10 in it, but they used my credit cards to the tune of $2500 in minutes. They tried for more, but a savy clerk was suspicious and called it in. Of course, I didn't have to pay a dime. It was very irritating though, replacing everything.

I have been sexually assalted. Not raped, but to very blunt and straight forward, fingers that I did not want to be 'there' were forced there, & my head was pushed down onto his lap. And for a while I hated a certain race but have since made a concerted effort to forgive & take something positive out of the situation.

LouBelle--wow you have made me think twice about taking a taxi. I attended a class last week about how not to become a victim of crime and I learned that many women are raped by tow truck drivers and now I don't want to use them or a taxi either. Glad you are ok!
