I'm not the most astute reader but I do believe that Jung taught that from birth to death there is this movement on both the male and female part of our speicies towards a combining of both sexual parts.

I read somewhere that C Jung said the reason we have wars was because the males in power where not in touch with thier more gentle female side.

Getting in touch with your feminine side??? hmmmmm. Does that mean using my left hand?

Prop,
I am trying to,, and one thing I find is a males relutance to admit to themselves thier other side, and the same of course I'm sure with the female gender has the same problem. There seems to be this unreasonable pride thing that keeps comming up.

"In the unconscious of every man there is hidden a feminine personality [anima], and in that of every woman a masculine personality [animus]." C.G. Jung The Archetypes of the Collective Unconscious
Here's a book I appreciated, for women, on resolving and integrating the contrasexual image: In Search of Woman's Passionate Soul by Caitlin Matthews.
But be aware----it is claimed that before the contrasexual image is integrated, it often partakes of the worst traits of its sexual counterpart.

That's it Merry, man has a feminine side in his unconscious mind ie it is in an unconscious state and this is called the anima. Likewise woman has the unconscious masculine animus, and according to Jung a healthy mental state can come about by giving these a certain amount of expression, not of course to the extend of becoming gay or lesbian but accepting to a degree the values that each one (anima/animus) stand for.
In man anima puts him in touch with others so he can empathise with their situation rather than feel totally remote and unconnected as does the GB versus its memebers. It means less remoteness from the world and less logical rigidity in one's approach as for example by following the rules to a T. -

Jung had his day.
Everyone is somewhere on the andro-gynic dimension. There are masculine women and feminine men. What people need to do is figure where they fit on that continuum and learn to be comfortable with it. I don't believe you can ever achieve integration if you are too masculine or too feminine. You have to learn techniques and reminders that make you conscious of your deficit.
Men (and Women) who are into independence and control tend to avoid intimacy. They need to be aware of how that can affect other people and their relationships.
Women (and Men) who are into creativity and relationships need to be aware of the dangers of being too accepting, tolerant and trusting.
