    G'day all,

Yep, we're up to number 141, not counting some Mid-Week Polls (remember them?)

So, how's the week been for you? Progressed along the road to freedom? Learned more about the truth about "The Troof"?

I hope so,and many have testified that JWD, as well as some other sites and books have helped them immensely. That's good.

So what shall we reminisce about today? Well, this weekend's poll question is perhaps lighthearted but with a serious undercurrent. See if you can spot it. But whatever you do, please.....................enjoy!

    This weekend's poll question is:

Why don't they have a Welcomer giving out Bibles and songbooks to use at the meetings like they do in the churches?

    1. The "brothers" might steal them.

    2. Money.

    3. Meeting bags would be half-empty.

    4. Money.

    5. Children might write in them.

    6. Money

    7. It costs too much to update them.

    8. Money.

    9. Who would be the "responsible brother" who would organise it?

    10. Money

11.The elders can't work out how many to get.

    12. Money

    13. We don't have the bookshelves to keep them on.

    14. Money

    15. Disfellowshipped "persons" might get them!

    16. Money

    17. Other (please detail)

So, what's your opinion? Is it just that "the Organisation" is plain old tight-fisted or does it go deeper than that? Which of the above would you choose, or supply your own.

We're looking forward to your responses and don't forget.............enjoy!

    Cheers, Ozzie

Freedom means not having to wear a tie.

I think 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16 sum up the complex reasons why they don't give out books or songbooks to use at the meetings.

    Ozzie!!! Good to see you.

About the bibles ... uhm, never really thought about that one. I had to ask for one .... and when I wanted one of those pocketbibles, I really had to plead ask ... So my answer, thought not based on any hard copy facts and / or documantation of this matter:

Other: It gives the brothers power this way, it implicates people getting them need to be worthy of actually receiving the word of God, and the brothers are the ones deciding on who is worthy - thus improving their own ego.

    And of course: money..

I think the reason is that they do not have that many unknown visitors.

Unknown? Actually if you attend a church, even if you're a regular or a visitor, you're given a bible and Songbook at the door. Some services have songs on overhead, but the thing is that no-one is expected to buy their own books and bring these with them to church services.

What an excellent poll, Ozzie, I dont know how you think them all up!

This makes me think of a conversation I had with my mum about the literature, and I said I would mention it on the board, to see if anyone else remembers this.

She said through the 70's and 80's until they made the literature 'free' they had a big drive to say everyone in the family, including very young children, had to have their OWN copy of every book and magazine they published. They justified it as some sort of spiritual thing, but mum said it was obvious it was to bump the sales up.

    So for the poll I have to say 2, 4, 6, 8, ...

    17. They don't want to have to clean up all the song books and bibles that litter the floor at the end of the meetings.

oooh, quite a confusing question (for me) - obviously all the even numbers are correct....but then I thought about 7 and 1...(It's Sunday and the pubs aren't open yet).

    7) The cost of updating - be cheaper in the long-run, the Congregation wouldn't 'own' any Old Light. And that's ANOTHER thing - if JW OWN any old publications, could they be disfellowshipped for having apostate literature?

    1) Half-Inching - when new publications are released New Light is revealed, there would be a danger of the ''Thinkers'' (Percentage?) in the Congregation nicking the Apostate stuff Old Light.

At my old hall it was the sisters who would spot the newcomers and hand over their families extra copies. It was the "thing to do" to show all the brotherly love that existed in the congo. The elders & ms wouldn't even speak to any one they didn't know.

Well they sure as shit would make you feel stupid and "raise your hand if you nedd a copy of the botchtower".

Bibles, just to expensive to risk though.

Your right ,too, kids might draw mustaches on the people singing in the front and back covers of the stupid song book.
