in my experience the " bringing reproach on Jehovah's name" df'ing is usually because gossip is out of control and people are squaring off with opinions.. and they gotta nip opinions in the bud!

She has cried for a reason, but they will seek to punish her for it - crying is a witness to their care, and they don't like the truth of that

She has already told an elder what the offense was and when, and told him to "do what he has to do." She has told me (in confidence) that she doesn't know who she is or what she wants, and wants to at least take a break from the religion. So at least this time there is no idle gossip, she has told them herself.
I'm trying to support her without stepping on my husband's beliefs or his ex-wife's, as they are both Witnesses and raised their children as such from birth.
And now, her older sibling is thinking of applying for temporary work at Bethel, since recently returning from a trip there. Now even more guilt for the younger sibling, who is sure to be disfellowshipped.
All I can do is tell her I love her and assure her that things will be okay, as long as she doesn't go nuts and do unsafe things.
Thank all for your comments, opinions and thoughts.

Worldlywife, there are rules of conduct everywhere. I work at a financial institution that is very proud of its' name. I am an officer of the company. If I do something scandalous they'll fire me because it tarnishes the company name. I believe this is the same idea behind "bringing reproach upon Jehovah's name. Without getting into the negative that can truthfully be said about the WTS, if a member of the organization doesn't want to obey the rules then they should not be a member. If your daughter doesn't want to abide by what I assume is a Bible based rule then she will be much happier out of the WTS.
